If you were going with 18's then you would need 215/35/15. That is going to be really tight under there. I got 205's on mine and that is pushing it with that fender lip under there. You might have to get under there and beat the hell out of the fender. Here is a little bit of info

STOCK TIRE SIZE: 185/60R15

DIAMETER: 23.7" SECTION WIDTH: 7.3" SIDEWALL HEIGHT: 4.4"
MINIMUM RIM WIDTH: 5.0" MAXIMUM RIM WIDTH: 6.5"
REVOLUTIONS PER MILE: 850

NEW TIRE SIZE: 215/35R/15

DIAMETER: 23.9" SECTION WIDTH: 8.5" SIDEWALL HEIGHT: 3.0"
MINIMUM RIM WIDTH: 7.0" MAXIMUM RIM WIDTH: 8.5"
REVOLUTIONS PER MILE: 843

IF YOU TRAVELED 60 MPH WITH THIS TIRE INSTALLED ON YOUR VEHICLE
YOUR SPEEDOMETER WOULD READ 59.5 MPH

correct me if i'm wrong...but i think i knew someone that had 18's on their scort....

i think they had to shave that inner fender lip down to keep from rubbin...

worst comes to worst...order em...then take em back if they dont fit. :D

:? Right - Some of you guys seem to know what you're talking about when it comes to Wheel (rim) sizes. On the English Escort site I use there seems to be an obsession with fitting larger sizes. Would I not lose acceleration if I were to fit larger wheels to my Escort? I do realize also that I would have to have my speedo recalibrated. Is it really worth doing, taking into account the expense involved? From my personal point of view, good acceleration (to get myself out of trouble) is far more important than top speed:?
