I am driving a 1998 ZX2 that is a manual[bought used]. I drive approximately 150 highway miles a week.

My question is that at approx. 67mph my tack is reading 3000rpms. That seems a bit high to me but i was just wondering if that is normal or not. I don't want to spend any more time on the road than i have to but going much faster that 70 kills my 35mpg.

Thanks in advance.

From what I understand about the ZX2s (I personally drive a '97 sedan, so what I know is usually hearsay), that's about right for that speed.

It has to do with the gear ratio of 5th gear. If it really bothers you, you might want to look into a 5th gear swap.

these little four cylinders need to be at a higher rpm to hold speed. in my supra, I could do 60mph @ 2300rpm. But with the escort it seems to hold it right around 3000. And I even get 10+mpg better with the escort.
