This is from AutoMeter's site concerning hooking a tach's signal wire to the Ford EDIS (Electronic Distributorless Ignition System) which you should have in your 99 scort.. if I'm thinking correctly.

--------------------------------------------
Ford 2.3L, 3.0L, 3.8L, and 4.0L (through mid 90's, 95 & older usually) distributorless ignition

The green wire from the tach will usually connect to pin 12 on the DIS module, and it is usually a black wire with a yellow stripe. This is usually the IDM (ignition diagnostic monitor) or the EDM (engine diagnostic monitor). (2.3L is = 2 PPR; 3.0L, 3.8L, and 4.0L is = 3 PPR)
--------------------------------------------

Sleeperscort has a How-To on his site that will probably help you some. I think most of the information on that page is still very relevant to your escort.

His car has a 2.0 SPI. Haven't done the tach, though. Try getting a Haynes manual. they should have what you need. If i can find mine, i'll scan the pages.

Off Topic Alert:

Just so you know, I moved this thread to the Interior Modifications Forum, that way it'll be a little easier for people to find when just looking through the site.

You may now continue.

Then it should have the same EDIS ignition as the 2nd gen 1.9 SEFI
