My 2000 ZX2 has a rough idle once warmed up. I do not think it is a vacuum leak because when cold and when warm I have done the "spray brake cleaner into the engine compartment" test and have not observed a rpm surge. What is the first and cheapest component to try replacing? I am going to replace the air filter and spark plugs first to rule those out as an issue as well.

Well i changed the plugs and air filter and the problem seems to have gone away. Im going to bet the air filter had been in there a few years too long. the people i bought the car from weren't exactly the best owners as far as engine care goes.

Its back. It warmed up in southern indiana about 20 degrees today and the rough idle has returned. Im guessing it is an intake issue now since the temperature change affected it. I will check the MAF by unplugging it while the engine is running and see if it continues to run. I have checked the PCV vaccum line elbows but they seem to be in good shape.
