asked this once before but missed any answers . Could a rotary engine fit and work in an Escort ? my friend and I were having a general bull session when I mentioned using a Mazda 6 cylinder for power . He came back with the idea of using a rotary . claimed it would put lots of ponies to the ground and be almost indestructable . is this feasable ? I`m not going to do it but will it work?

there in lies the problem. the Rotary is built for RWD, I don´t know if there is even a FWD transmission that would fit the rotary engine. It´s 1.3L, yes, unless you do the math with the 4 stroke method, then it can technically come out to 2.6L.
Mazda lost it´s ace to warrenty claims on the turbo´d RX7. O-rings/seals etc would end up failing causing coolant burning which meant the end of the engine. So i dunno. :-?

yep as the rotary is built for a RWD application you would most likely need some custom parts as an adapter plate for teh tranny and a custom tranny input shaftand you would prob have to get a bit creative with the clutch setup...after that the rest could be worked as far as the wiring, coolant and fuels....oh and do not forget custom motor mounts...but we are seriously considering the project....but not till I´m done with the GT though

one way to find out, measure a fully assembled and see if its bigger lengthwise compared to the 4 cyl engine block. if they are similar in length its just a matter of finding someone to make a custom tranny adaptor(there are several companies out there) and finding a way to fit the intake ,exhaust ,alt.etc under the hood and make everything work.

with enough tme and money anythings possible
