I know this happened a while ago, but I was out of town for a bit and didn't find out until a few days ago.

My friend, Dan, was a really crazy driver. He drove like there was no such thing as a speed limit. Me and him always used to race around everywhere we went. I know racing around everywhere in our cars is a stupid idea, but I never thought we would actually get hurt or anything. Well, my friend Dan was driving home from school with his friend Shawn. The main road(York road) that goes through my town(Hatboro,PA) is pretty straight, except for this little curvy part. Well, Dan was going around 90mph down this road like he always does. I don't know what happened, but I guess he lost control of the car. He rode up on the curb and hit a phone pole. He was going so fast that the pole snapped in half and the car kept going and hit a second pole. When the car finally came to a stop, all it was was a twisted pile of metal. Dan was killed. The other person in the car, Shawn, was taken to the hospital and is still there today.

I guess I'm still in disbelief that he's gone. He was one of my best friends. I guess I always thought that we were invincible. This was definitely a wake-up call for me.

The other day, I walked down to where he died. There are still broken pieces of glass, skidmarks, and splinters of wood from the first phone pole he hit. I stood there for like an hour just looking at the little memorial that people made for him.

RIP Dan Sillman, you will be missed.

Sorry to hear that man. Sadly, I know what it is like. I live in Slippery Rock - in the last 5 years we have lost 12 kids from our local high school to car accidents. One of them was one of my really good friends - he was also driving when him and one of our other friends perished in the crash. The other three were badly hurt. I knew almost everyone in all of the wrecks, some better than others but it is never easy to deal with losing someone you knew and loved. I'll be thinking and praying for your loss.

My dad was telling me about a story in the paper the other day over in Western Washington. This kid (in an escort) was driving himself and his friends to their prom or something. They were on the highway and he was speeding (naturally...) Well no one really knows what happened, but the kid wound up hitting a guard rail and it some how when through the drivers door and through him. The other people in the car were injured, but still alive. That's some scary crap right there.
