I have a 96' lx with manual tranny. After I swapped the clutch, I noticed that the reverse lights would come on when in 5th gear (as well as reverse). To me it didn't matter so much, until recently when they stay on all the time, 1st, neutral, everything.

I could pull the fuse, but I would really like to fix this properly.

Any advice?

My guess would be the reverse light switch, especially if it's been moved recently. I've had one fail in the on position, and the only way I found out was because another driver pulled up beside me and told me my reverse lights were on.

That sounds like it could be it. Where is the switch located?

When my buddy told me the lights stayed on, I just said it was the Afterburners LOL

Without actually pulling out the connector. Would anyone know which switch a '96 had? I called the local auto parts guy, and he said there were 3 different switches available. One was $29 and had 4 pins, the other two were $75  and were available in 2 prong, and 2 pin.

I would like to hope mine has the cheaper of the three, but would like to know before pulling it.

Before you put a new one in, here's a little tip. Take the old one out, push in the little button as far as it will go, and spray some cleaner in it. I think I used carb cleaner. You may have to do this a couple of times to get it clean. It might have some gunk stuck in it and the button won't release all the way. After you spray it out, turn the key on to test it. I did this to mine almost a year ago now, and it still works.
If the '95 tranny is the same as a '96, the switch is located on the front of the case. The '95 service manual shows it it the only swicth on the front of the tranny. I looked on Advance Auto's site, and they list the same switch for both years. The part # is S9244, and the price is $21.39.

I hope this helps.
