Yeh, i already did that... whoever owned the car before cut the wires for that switch.... either way when i shift into reverse, the lever that puses the button down is wayyyy off.. when i shift into 3rd, and 5th, the switch is pushed down completing the citruit... which would look funny to other drivers... reverse lights turning on at 30.... if your positive about that being the switch then ill thry and see whats goin on with it.... but when i shift foward(1,3, and 5) the shift linkage moves towards the button... and away for all the other gears... so i dunno... maybe a little ghetto riggin need to be done... thanks

Ummmmm the switch by the control rod is the upshift light override switch so when you´re in fifth you don´t start wondering where 6gear is. The reverse switch is right at theback of the tranny besides the battery. Easily accessible from the top, 2 min job. If it´s the same as an ´89 transmission, if not nevermind I´´m half piled so I can´t remember!

ok, i found the switch your talking about.. it goes inside the tranny housing... my shift light does not work... and the reverse lights work half the time.. the bulbs are good.. i checked the connection... i think what is bad might be the sensor next to the battery like coswannabe was talking about... it can prolly tell what gear the tranny is in so that the shift light knows when to come on... im not sure but it wont matter to me if i pass inspection tomorow..(i got a hook up who basically will look out the window from his desk and pass the thing) heh

thanks

It has a little metal ball that is spring loaded and when the tranny is put in reverse it moved the ball and closes the switch. It eventaually gets guumed up with crap and doesn´t get a good contact. I´d fix them nobody notices a car reversing without the lights working. Cheap and easy. Cheaper than an accident aywayz.

also.. you seem to kno a lot about escorts.. being you have 2.. the rear struts i tried changing today.. what order do you take them out.. top first.. and at the top.. u need vise grips or sumthing to hold the top of the piston rod while turning the bolt with some sort of bent wrench..
