Is there any rpm limiter in a 1.9 95 lx ? Too scared to go beyond 5500 :)
Also, what does actually happen when the rpm is pushed too high... and how far into the red zone does it happen :?:

AllMotorFocus (Previously known as TheMightyEscort) says his 95LX had no limiter and he took it to the end of the tach, and the valves began to float. :? But, I dunno. Maybe it was broken?

yeah james, but it doesnt make any power until 5000rpm.

i was pretty gosh darn sure the GTX redline was 6500 and rev limiter was 6750..

fuel cutout/rev limiter on the 1.9s is 6250, but mine doesnt always kick in. sometimes my upgraded valvetrain forces the engine to spin higher if i make it.

the 1.9s internals are fine at the higher rpm, honestly theyre good for at least 6500-7000rpm, but its the puny stock valvetrain that is the weak point.

my new lifters dont float til 7200rpm, which is nice except i dont typically rev that high anyways.

a stock 1.9 has no business anywhere past 5500rpm, the power falls off after that. the SPI holds on at least til redline before it falls.

so it really doesnt sound like youve got it too bad. i suppose if you didnt have the Si engine with VTEC you'd really be screwed.

"I make 85hp to the wheels from 3000-5000rpm then when my type R stickers kick in I make an additional -10hp to the wheels til 7000rpm."

seriously though, my buddy has a D16...something, barely over 100hp, ive driven his civic and it takes bloody hell in forever to wind that thing up to the higher rpms where it finally starts to move.

i make 120 hp at the wheels from 3000-5500, then the high lobes kick in and I'll make another 20ish to the wheels till 7600 rpm.
-if your only making a total of 120 hp durring that entire 2500rpm range, thats not verry good. is it like.. from 0-3000 it makes like.. 70 hp then from 3000-5500 it makes like 120 and then from 5500-9000 it makes like... 150 actual whp.. then from 9000-16000 it makes like 658whp N/A ..thats one hell of a curve.

-hahaha my duration is the same as your lobes all the time. lol.

but ya.. didnt we establish on erdt that some of the pcm's are programed for like a 14400 rev limit? i know mine didnt have one, or a governor either. i could wind the 1.9 to 6700 if i needed too and it still got fuel. it wont really do any damage unless you wind it up to arround 6900 maybe.

So are you saying I can rev my SPI past the 6000RPM redline and it won't damage anyhthing? 8O

I've hit the rev limiter on the 1.9 once while on the autocross course. It's a rather harsh fuel cutout, but since the 1.9 doesn't make any power there.. .it wasn't harsh feeling at all.

i know the focus when you hit fuel cut at 107mph it is like a revlimiter but softer. it just backs you off to about 98 or so i have been told.

if we had rice cookers under our hoods, the faster you can spin it the more power it makes.. just think if a crx could spin that little 1.6 up to like... 30,000 rpm before redline..

but ya seriously 5500 isnt anything. you wont hurt a dam thing

rev limiters suck.. you gotta go faster faster faster..

but ya i wind my spi out to 6500 at least 5 times a day and its still chuggin along.
Woah for some reason i am afraid to rev mine past 6000RPM..i don't wanna float a valve or anythin quite yet. What is the redline on the 3rd gens that come with the SPI...Is it the same as the 2nd gen 1.9L

The SPI power curve starts to fall off at about 5300rpm in N/A format. (at least how mine is setup currently) Sure you can rev past that but it doesn't do you much good. I've had my SPI all the way to 5900-6000rpm and it's down right gutless up there. Anything after 5500rpm is worthless. That is till I do the headwork and get the cam. I'm also trying to whip up a custom intake mani to help it breath even deeper. The stock SPI intake mani just can't be doing it any justice even in the motors' current state.

Anyways, back on topic. My old 1.9 could go up to 6000rpm no problem. Just didn't do anything for get up and go after 5200rpm except make lots of noise.

my pony being all modded and crap like it is, it revs easily to 7000rpm, and it pulls hard until 6000 then starts to taper a bit.

course i have my cam gear retarded a couple degrees right now for more top end..i usually like it advanced 6 degrees for WICKED low-mid rpm torque. makes it a real mean street machine.
