On the '97, you just pop off the rubber caps, unscrew the nuts, and the arms will lift off, right?

Yup. I remember when I repainted mine they didn't just lift off though. I had to pry at it for a minute to get it loose.

I will tape up the edges of the hood too.

dont pry or you risk breaking the windshield or something else. use a rubber mallet right about where the arm hinges, and it should pop right loose


the are held on tight by splines and a beveled press to fit type

Just remove the bolt and then push and pull at the first joint, they will come off.

^ +1 lift at the pivot/spring point and the bolt point and pull up - they come off easy as long as the pressure ON the windshield is removed.

I need to do this to my '97 also, the paint is peeling off and looks like crap. Other than that, the car looks pretty good on the outside.
