Hello!

I'm happy to have discovered this web site. I'm restoring a 1984 Mercury Lynx by converting it to a slightly modified 1983-1985 Version of the Escort GT.

I've owned the car since July of 2008, having purchased it on eBay from a seller in Amarillo, TX - where the car has been since new.

I orginally considered making the car an Escort SS 1981 "Tribute" car or clone, but have decided I like the styling of the 1983 Escort GT a little better. The finished look will be a blend of the two styles I think. I'll be restoring the entire interior, which was roasted for years in the Texas sun and needs a new headliner, seats, carpet, dash-top, door panels, etc...

I have created a yahoo.com group site to detail the progress of the restoration. Here is the address:
http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/1st ... =179700368

OR, try this shortened version:
http://tinyurl.com/krzzxv

I haven't had any vistors to my yahoo group yet, so stop by and say hello. I'll be adding more content as I begin to get work done the car.

Thanks very much to those who created this excellent Escort site!

No, I haven't made any progress yet! So no pictures. I'll be listing some before pics at yahoo soon.

The car will be mostly original, but I'll be changing it to Escort GT trim of course, as much as possible. Other than that, fairly stock, with the exception of a modern stereo, a K&N air filter, etc... This won't be a hot rod custom, just a few updates.

Thanks for the welcome!

I will be interested to see how much rust your car has, if any. We live in S. Texas in the winter, only 40 miles from the Gulf of Mexico, and if a car is left outside down there, salt content in the dew can make it rust from the top down. Amarillo I think of as a dry area.

Hello denisond3 - I know exactly what you mean on the top-down rust. I bought an eBay car from Miami FL some years ago. All kinds of hidden rust in strange places - that was a GM Olds Ciera. This Lynx on the other hand - super clean!

I'm really pumped up on this restoration / restomod. I always liked the first generation USA Escorts styling - now I get to take plain Jane to "Extreme Automotive Makeover" and create a new 1984 Escort GT 23 years after the first generation production came to a close!

Thanks for your interest!
