Have any of you all had to replace the Gas tank filler hose? I found that the gas tank end of the hose is all cracked. First I was unable to find the part number at autozone/discount/orielly's. I found that you can buy a 2' hose and then cut it to fit. After I loosened the clamps I could not get the hose to budge. Should I cut it off? And after I get it off how does one get it back on?

Any help would be great.

filler hose replacement -

Im not sure the hose is actually a 2" diameter, but you should be able to tell when you get the old hose off.
Just slice the end of the old hose with a razor blade, and work it off. You may need to pry it up with a screwdriver. Its a fairly stiff rubber, and doesnt get softer with age. I got the actual Ford replacement hose (for $23 dollars), and a year later its showing a tiny crack starting. So next time I will just get "Gates Fuel Filler Hose" in the right diameter.
When you put the screw clamps back on, I would snug them down, then check them in another week and re-snug them. That gives the rubber some time to conform.
To get the new hose back on, I just mushed the hose onto the end of the fuel filler tube, then fought it onto the shorter tube from the fuel tank. You can smear some oil on the inside of the hose to help make it slippery, and if the rubber is warm (from sitting in the sun) it will be slightly softer.
If possible, please tell us the actual inside diameter of the tube, and its length.
At the fuel tank end, I think I would cut the hose end with a slight angle, to better fit onto the tank.

Ok I finally got it off. I had to cut it. Here are the spec on the hose:
10 3/4 in long
1 7/8 in on filler side
2 in on tank side
6 7/8 in circumference
25-30 degree angle on tank side.

I have pics I just need to figure out to post them. I am going to take the hose to the local auto-parts dealers and see if I can get it. If you all know of way to post the pics with the preview in the preview let me know.

Mucho thanks for the dimensions. I think I ll get the 2"diameter - as I would rather squeeze the hose -down- to the filler neck with a screw clamp than -stretch- it over the tank inlet. I've got three 2nd gen Escorts, and when a part fails on one of them, I like to replace it on the others.

I need to make a Correction the length of 9 3/4.

Also I tried to to use a gates hose that Orielly's gave sold me and well it was not going to go over that gas tank. So I called the local ford dealer and ordered one for $23 (including tax.)

Hopefully this will be easier.

One last thing. So I got the hose and got it on after about an hour.

So here is what I learned:
Part number for 96 escort LX: FOCZ-9324-AA Hose ASY $21.09 + tax
Use a little oil on both ends to get it to slide on.
Gas tank end first and then filler neck. The tube bends enough to slide on the neck.
Then just snug up the clamps. I am going to check on it in a couple days to make sure it is snug.
