So my 97 was involved in a minor accident today. Nobody injured etc, It's still a low mileage car that I like (26k miles) and I found a 97 someone's selling locally for parts. Long story short.. mine's white it's black.. but I figure it'll look Ok as long as it's all symmetrical and I can maybe blend the two tones together with some accent lines or whatever..

Anyway, so I'm probably going to replace the hood, all doors, grille/bumper, and the two front wheel-well panels. I figure it could come out okay, especially if I paint the white trim under the doors bottom edges black or an accent colour, so it'll basically have a black front-end/sides with a white top/rear end.. Okay so maybe a little weird but trying to make the best of it.

My chiltons describes removing the grille, doors, and hood and honestly it looks pretty straight forward. I glanced at how the front wheel-well panels are connected and it looks like they're bolted along the top, inside the engine compartment.

I'm basically looking for any insight on anyone that has done this; I'll have 1 or 2 friends to assist. Just would appreciate any insight from someone that has done this on any gotchas, caveats, etc etc.

I know I should disconnect the battery and otherwise follow instructions to disarm the air bag system when doing this type of work; apart from that I'm thinking it's basically just unbolting/pinning the old parts and replacing with new.

Thanks very much.

Also..

Open to any suggestions on other parts to consider ripping out. I don't have anywhere to store the other escort long term so I'll likely be dumping it at a junkyard after.

Have you called the local junkyards looking for a white car? There are a few locally, but it may be different where you are.

as for removing the front end, make sure you have metric sockets (#10 shallow and deep) and a couple decent length extensions.
