Just removing the silencer will not help you much. Get a air intake pipe ( Any exost shops who has mandro bended pipis can do that 80$ CAN for the pipe done) Get a K&N filter 80$ CAN and get a pracket for your MAF for about 25. Then you´ll feel the difference. Removing silencer will only help you a bit on higher rpms.

To put a K&N Cone filter on the escort do you have to buy the "Filter Intake Performance Kit" or can you get a cone filter that will just bolt on?

what about the idle hose, how did you have it attatch to the intake pipe, did you have them weld something to attatch it to, i have an idea of how to do it but wandering what everybody else did

Neah...just get a cone filter. one of those with an opening on the top. Make sure it´s pure K&N. Don´t fall for a Ractive or OBX garbage filters. I´m not sure about idle tube since it´s only used on Ztec engines and not on 2nd gen GT. (I´ll check) Maybe you mean valve cover bteather tube. You´ll need to get a small K&N filter.

Well, this is what I can tell you, I did several little things to my car to make it faster and so far they have all helped, I removed the air silencer, cut the intake tube off that goes into the fender, and added a K&N air filter (stock style) although I did lose a little on the bottom end it pulls ALOT harder after about 3800rpm, my only complaint is it will not idle if it is cold, but maybe sombody has an answer to that?!!!???!!!

When you say an "opening at the top" what are you talking about?

And what size of K&N are we talking here, or if anyone knows the stock number on the box from their filter that would be great
Thanks guys

i recently threw in a K&N filter which just replaced my stock filter (model # is 33-2126) as well as removing the air silncer tube and all that below the stock filter box. i combined this greater intake with greater exhaust (Dynomax super turbo muff and complete 2 1/4 catback including flex pipe cuz it was worn out) and it´s been driving much nicer! now to try it out @ the local autoX!
o, btw, this was for a 93 lx, but i don´t think the stock filter size changes from lx to gt

same thing happened to me when i got my intake...the car wouldn´t idle in the morning. i tried screwing with the fuel injection but that didn´t work, and finally my friend that put the filter on said that he figured out that the filter would fit with the resonater after all, so i took my car to him and he put it back on. also, if you leave it on you don´t need to get another air breather filter. it´s quieter but it idles fine now in the morning.

OK so did you guys remove the Resonance Duct, the Resonance duct inlet hose, the air intake duct and the resonance chamber and what did you do with the idle speed control hose that comes off of the resonance chamber???

I have an answer: The air tube you speak of feeds the cold air idle valve; which adjusts idle air flow according to coolant temp.....you took this tube out of the intake...meaning that your car is no longer metering air at idle. ALL air going into the car should travel past the VAM to make sure you get the right fuel...Also at idle, if the VAM is "parked" (not open a bit) current gets cut off to your fuel pump....
Hope that helps.
