i took off the escort and lx badges on my back, but i couldn't get the ford emblem off of the trunk lid. how do i remove it? i tried using fishing wire but i think there is something holding it in, and i can't seem to get to it from the inside of the trunk lid.

thanks

It's just two little bumps, I took a knife to it and just pulled it off. It's glued on around the edges of the emblem as well, but it's rather weak.

I don't blame you for trying to cover up the fact that you own a ford... :D

and yeah, you can just pry it off with a razorblade.

how did you take off the other ones?
i used fishing line behind the badges to get off most of it, and then i used a razor blade to scrape off the adhesive stuff (be very careful not to scratch the car up). then after all that was gone i used some Goo Gone on a paper towel and cleaned it up so u can't tell there used to be a badge there

debadged car= sleeper

There's a few cars that even I can't tell what the hell it is that are debadged running around town here...and some of them have built motors. I'm scared of most debadged cars.

They have a rubber eraser wheel that will go into a drill and it will remove any glue, pinstripes, or vinyl graphics from a painted serface without damaging the finish. It a 3M product and can be found @ any auto paint store..... Only thing I dont like about removing emblems are the locating holes left in the sheet metal......

hahahahahahahaha - If you ever say taking the Ford emblem off of an Escort is helping it turn into a sleeper again, i'm gonna smack the shit outta you.

and you should be scared of all cars, with your stock-ass. :)

Pleh. you misunderstood. after I had built the BP and dropped it into my rusted ass piece of crap debaged GT, it would have been a sleeper.

lol that's a good point. i didn't do it to be a sleeper, i don't even race the car. the badges just looked faded and crappy, and i was bored and wanted to do something to change the car a little from every other old person who drives the same car.

Debadging a car = Lame ass cliche

If you really want a sleeper make sure there are some dents and/or rust on your car and keep all the badges there! Even put a baby seat or two in the back and some "I support my local highway patrolmen" stickers and then you'll have yourself a sleeper!

Debadging is tricky. It can look good in some cases, but it can also look bad. I know this from experience because I've read art/visual perception books, and the whole point of badging is to provide visual balance. Every aspect about car design is this elegant balance, and few people are sensitive to that... for example, the grille on GTs has the ford badge to balance the very harsh diagonal lines... and if you take it off, you lose the balance.

I think debadging can look good in some cases, and I also think the same for shaving. I've seen some shaved cars that look really good. It just takes a bit of artistic skill and some good taste. Not everybody can make it look right.

and don't forget if the paint has faded over the years, and when you remove the badge(s) you might have a "tan line" that makes it look like the damn thing fell off in the walmart parkinglot last month.
---haggard, yes. but one step closer to KFC's image of the "true" sleeper.

SWEET! If having a badge that fell off makes you a sleeper then my scort officially went into "sleeper mode" tonight... I know that that doesn't make it a sleeper, but I got to work tonight and noticed the front grille was missing the Ford Logo. I'll have to chek my street tomorrow to see if it fell off at home (although personally I think the Ford dealership stole it when I brought my car back and fingered them for several very dangerous problems that had arisen from their "fixing" my car.) I think I'll get another one and do that whole painting thing to it. I remember seeing a little how to on changing the color of the badge, I would like to turn it white so that it blends a little bit more nicely with the car, but still balances the grille out.

As Siragan said there are some people who notice the unbalanced look that shaving and debadging can leave a car with, I like to think that I can. And presonally I think the escort, at least in the front, looks better with its badging. Nothing personal against James but when I saw his front grille without the badge it looked a bit awkard. however, the back end doesn't suffer too much in my opinion if you remove both badges, but just one leaves the car with a lop-sided tail.

Anyways, just my little thoughts on the topic.

What i'm gonna do is cmake a custom grill but keep the Ford on it, take off the "ESCORT LX" emblema nd glue it to my dash on the passenger side, and relocate the Ford to the Center of the Trunk (still above the Soon to be painted reflec-tards, of course) what do ya guys think?

I've been too lazy to go buy one from the dealer since I painted my car. Although I've put a larger 1st gen ford badge on the rear since this photo

I'm a sleepa :p  :D
