Buy the belt for an Escort that has power steering (if yours is so equipped) but does not have AC.

The Pony belt

On the majority of 2nd gen 1.9 engines they used a one piece bracket for the alternator, power steering and air conditioning.

The Pony has a 2 piece bracket as it does not use power steering.
One bracket is for the alternator and the other is for air conditioner.

While I have routed alternator only, alternator with air and alt/air/power steering, I have not routed alternator and power steering only.

Checking my handy Chiltons manual shows the routing for this as simply
losing the air conditioner pulley and the lower idler pulley.
Odd it does not show the setup on my 2 Ponys!

Belt lenth will be a measure and fit procedure.

My pony bracket is 1 piece, not 2. It has a spot for an alternator, and then a dummy pulley where the power steering should be.

Just get a serp belt for a car equipt with power steering, but not A/C. That is how I ran my blue car until I put the UDP on.

ok. i just went and checked it out and it looks like i can use my origonal belt with the idler pulley still on there. not sure if that pulley comes off with the steering pump but i think it's worth a shot.

thanks for all the info.The local parts store says they dont have a belt like that,They want to sell me a dummy pully to replace the a/c.Aint gonna do that....

The belt you get may not be specifically for an Escort, but if it has the correct number of ribs and is the right length for your application it will work. You may have to do a little bit of trial and error work to find one that fits.

all i did was call my local parts store and ask for a serpentine belt for a car with no A/C, cant you only get them like that? maybe its different here in Canadaland

Yup! Texas cars.....I have seen 5 in this area all with the same setup, same color, air cond was the only option.

the pony one seems to be shorter even still. but its a close match
