yeah when they put them in a manual, there more money cuz they have a little thingy that lets u start the car without having the clutch pushed in. they also have a sensor, that if the car IS left in gear, it wont start,

i got a remote-car-started (automatic trans.) for xmas, good thing i didnt install it, so now´ll i have to take it back and get a new one.

for awhile my i couldn´t start my car if i DID push the clutch in - having the clutch pused in to start a manual has nothing to do with having it in neutral or not, all the pedal is doing is pusing a little button behind it that acts like a starter ignition kinda deal. the little pad on my pedal had fallen off and i coudldn´t start the Scort unless i reached down and pushed in the button. i could´ve had it and gear and it could´ve messed up really bad, but it was an easy fix, just a lil´ bit of superglue :)

all the auto-starter probably does is tap into that button sensor to fool it. though having a sensor to actually make sure it´s outta gear is always good :-o

You won´t mess anything up if you attempt to start a car while it´s in gear with the clutch out.. it´ll just lurch forward as the starter turns the flywheel. I´d prefer not to have the clutch pedal switch.. it´s something reccomended by a lawyer, not an engineer.

In any case, I couldn´t use a remote starter because I never leave my car out of gear when I´ve got it parked. The roads are too steep around here to not make it a habit... and the parking brake isn´t very trustworthy. Maybe if I´d just get in the habit of chocking my wheels every time I stop ;-)...

If you are having problems with the remote starter fuses blowing out, disconnect the wires from the remote starter to the horn, and the parking lights and anything else they wired as an accessory. for some reason most of the remote starter companies tell you to hook up the parking lights so that when the car has been started using this thing it turns on the parking lights. well, let me tell you that was the cause of three days of diagnostics on a ´01 toyato tundra. make sure that the three wires that are the large gauge red power wires have there own source. ignore that bs about tapping in to something under the dash. run the constants to the fuse block.
