OK, the car my wife bought me (ain't she sweet!) is a '96 LX w/mtx, with only one known problem: it won't shift into reverse! The lady I'm getting it from just had a mechanic put a new clutch in, (because he told her that would fix it! 8O ) but when he was done he still couldn't find reverse. But he DID charge her $1100 for his services! Anyway, I'm assuming that it would be a good idea to go ahead and drop the tranny and see what kind of work he did. This isn't a problem, I've done this a couple of times before on 'Scorts. However, I also know that the dear sweet lady's hubby (who is now institutionalized, and was capable of spectacular "4th of July" level rage episodes) might have bent/broke/mangled something once while trying to find reverse, so I'm prepared to tear the transmission apart. The question is, is there a rebuild kit (bearings, seals, synchros) available for this transmission? Where do I get it? Anything special I need to know about the inside of this transmission? Eventually I expect to put a slightly warmed 2.0 Zetec into the car. Any special tricks that this transmission needs to live with more power?
