I'm fixing my rear drum disk and I want to know if we can remove the brake pads and still take the car? Without any danger?

Edit: Hum..since nobody respond me, I just put back my brake pads
I found that they are scrap...so...going to buy some other...

What would you recommand me? Brake Pads? Ford Escort 96 1.9 LX?

To answer your first question..

No. As soon as you step on the brake pedal, without brake shoes on the rear brakes, the pistons in the wheel cylinders will pop out and there's a really good chance the pedal will go to the floor and you'll pour brake fluid all over inside the drum.

Your rear brakes don't matter very much when it comes to braking in a FWD vehicle. Whatever pads you can pick up at the local autoparts store for $15 a set is usually good enough. There are some companies out there, like Velvetouch, that make some high performance compounds for drum brakes.

I say all this having made my rear brakes smoke after a particularly harsh backroad rally-style drive.
