My escort is crapping out or something. I was getting this noise from my right front tire like if i was hitting a tin can or something. At first (2 days ago) it wasnt that bad but today i got really loud banging noises whenever i take a right turn or when the weight shift to the right front tire and when i brake. Whtas wrong with my lovable scort.

how many miles do you have on the car? Has it ever had new wheel bearings, cv shafts, balljoints or anything like that? It could be the wheel bearing or even the cv shaft that is going bad. Jack the car up and see how much play there is in the wheel, that might give you an idea.

Is it a periodic or random banging sound? Periodic sounds (at regular intervals) are often related to a rotating object (i.e. wheel) and chaotic (random) sounds are often non-rotatingly related.

But if I were you, I´d jack the wheel up, and then grab the wheel and try to "twist" it in the CAMBER direction. This will check the tightness of the ball joints. Then try twisting in the TOE-IN direction. This will check for play in the tie rods.

Chances are that if it´s periodic, it´s either in your wheel bearing (which I don´t think it is) or it´s your CV joint. Bad CV joints often have banging sounds when they **** the bed.

good luck.

If you still have your original tie rod end in the car then get rid of them and get some MOOG ends. And I suspect that you might have more than one problem here.

Don't forget strut mounts. Those get overlooked and are often original. I would give the whole steering and suspensions system a thorough look.

hehe, yeh, damn those cv joints. I tore my cv boot when i hit a curb a while back and i forgot about it till one day she was grinding, phew, before a 2 hour drive i checked it, that sucker had no grease left in it. Lucky, i didnt spin the bearings so i greased her up, put a new boot on it and its still spinnin.,
