okay, here's a random thought:

i'm beginning to get peturbed with the nonsense from those friggin automatic seatbelts in the 1st and primarily 2nd gen escorts!

i was wondering, how difficult would it be to perform a seatbelt swap for an over-the-shoulder/lap belt? like one from the rear belts of 2gen or the belts from a ZX2 or some 3rd gen scort.

i was thinking it through in my head, but haven't actually gone and looked myself.
first i'd have to turn off the motor for the automatic seatbelt. then i'd have to find or drill a hole into the side of the wall, near the door, and replace the bottom recoil piece uhhhh something something --- i haven't thought that far yet...

but has anyone tried this at all? or does this seem practical or just completely a waste of time? comments?

You could get all the parts you need from a canadian car with standard belts.

You'll need the center console (for a clean removal of the shoulder reels), the trim peices from the B-pillars and around the top of the doors, the reels/belts, the upper turnbuckle and the bottom anchor.

Pretty much just unplug and yank everything out and then put all the 'new' stuff back in place.

canadiand had both versions.
look at a mx3 tyhey were standard, and zx2 were standard, the spot the screw into in the b-billar is already there. just you will have the gap in the center counsel, and the gap around the door on teh top. but if you dont care on that, just do it!

I have manual belts :D

Please don't rant on photo quality, you'd undestand why if you saw the camera :x

Many of the scorts in the Canadian wrecking yards have manual belts. They're infact very common up here

Ok Deathslinger. I sent you a PM. Here are some removal pics, and the proof pics of your parts. All these photo's can be viewed on page 5 of my cardomain site.

Your donor car: 93LX

The example car: 95GT (Everything I needed on this car was crappy, but it had no interior left so it made taking pics easy  )

Side of Seats: Manual Belts

Side of Seats: Auto Belts

I guess we should do a how to on this now 8O

Well I wouldn't have a problem getting any more except for time. I know Dirk11 on ERDT asked me a while back and he's now waiting for some from another board member. My biggest problem, which was the case with Dirk as well, is time. I have a school semester coming up next week, so it's all down hill from there as far as my time goes. The only way I was able to get some for deathslinger00 was that I took a week off between work and school and was already going to the yard. The other problem is that my free time doesn't always correspond with the wrecking yards operating hours. We'll see how things work out with deathslinger00 as far as parts requirements go and his side of the install. If it works out smoothly I'll consider shipping some more to other board members when my time free's up.

My cost this run was $50 Cdn for everything. If I were gonna make a habit of this I would want a little more for my labour as my time is sparse. Between my labour, parts and shipping, I could probably put together a package deal for $100 US or something. But I really want to see how things go for deathslinger00 on this before I do any more. That and I'm back to school on Monday

Dude, notice I said shipping included? That's the biggie right there. Shipping a box big enough for all the pieces to the US isn't cheap. Anyways, I didn't say in concrete it was going to be a hundred bucks. It was just an idea for one set price everything included which up to this point seems un-popular. I guess the best way would be to just charge you the actual shipping cost to your address.

And as much as I want to ship these to every American member at cost, you've got to remember, I'm a student. I need money too. I don't think a couple of bucks to yank them off is such a bad thing. Instead of paying the wrecking yard labour, you can pay me instead at a MUCH cheaper rate

</ha ha ha take that> lol
