You guys are just as protective over your cars as I am... so you can relate to what I´m about to tell you.

I was driving home, and I was following a school bus. The bus stopped, I stopped the car behind me stopped and was very close. Since my Escort is a manual, I roll back just a little on some hills, but normally it´s no more then an inch or two. He was driving this old Oldsmobile. In this case, the car behind me tapped my car when I was moving forward. I went to pull over to get his information, you know, just in case, and he drove off before I could get his plates. There was no damage, just a little scratch from his plates, but it´s okay. What would you guys have done?

I have the worst luck with getting hit... it´s getting absolutely ridiculous. If I get hit one more time, I going to kick some ass. I don´t care if they´re the governor, I´m going to hit them (their bodies) however hard they hit me. Why can´t people just stay back? There´s no excuse to be that close. I always stay back, because you never know what the person in front of you is going to do.

Hey, I can totally identify with how ya feel, but believe me physically assaulting somebody (however idiotic they may be) is not gonna solve a thing, and is more likely to just make things worse for you. You´re anger´s justified, but let´s face reality. 90% of the people on the road don´t care about their car (or their driving) like we do, in fact probably 90% of the people on the road don´t care about anyone but themselves, and their driving reflects that. It´s sad but true.
To survive, you need a little wisdom and a lot of grace. Wisdom to pick your fights carefully, and grace to forgive others for their mistakes. And we all know we´ve done stupid stuff too, and no one´s perfect and all. Still, when their stupidity results in damage to your ride, you have every right to have it restored to it´s previous condition, and they have an obligation to stop to exchange insurance info.
I can identify cause I was rear-ended like 3 weeks ago. I was stopped to make a left turn, and this guy in a Camaro came along, went to stop, and slid into me. My thoughts at that moment are unprintable, but thank God the guy pulled over and was kinda polite too, asked me if I was hurt and all. Not a major hit, but enough to crack my rear bumper and bend the mounting parts behind it. Anyway, the car (94 LX) is being fixed right now.
Hope it doesn´t sound like I´m lecturing. Hang in there, and just try to be the best driver you can be, and try to ignore the messed-up world we live in!

Even if there´s no damage, the guy DID commit a crime by taking off. He has no idea if he killed someone in your car. This happenned to my wife in her Saturn. There was about $3000 in damage, all in the left taillight area. Niether she nor her mother or little sister gathered their wits soon enough to get his plate or even what kind of car. Again, for all he knows, someone might be dead right now because of him, and the best I can hope for is that it is rotting his stomach as we speak. If I were there, I definitely would have got thw type of car and, unless he went too fast, his plate. I would love to fry him in court! The cops had nothing to go on. The body shop said he would alert all the other shops for a car that looks like it was in that accident. But I digress. I just don´t know what kind of mind you hava to have to take off like that, even if there´s no damage. You don´t belong on the planet. When I had a Lancer ES I got hit in the back at red lights so many times I stopped getting out of the car. I don´t know what it was about that car that attracted so many rear enders. There was never any damage, and in every case the guy or gal owned up to thhis or her error. Like I do when I do thins like that.
Sage, you´re not alone, there are peole getting screwed by a$$holes everywhere.

When I was driving my Geo Metro I was sittin at Wendy´s waiting to get out onto the road to go back home and this lady was trying to sneak by me too close and scraped up my bumper, I had to get out and check it, even though my friend said don´t get out...I saw it was a woman, go figure? It wasn´t much so I let it go. But I was still pissed. I mean, do people not realize they have a gear called "reverse"???? OF course like a year later I turned in frotn of an S10 and completely destroyed my front driver side section.

So far no one has hit my Escort, and I hope no one ever does. That means I´d be forced to get a car, and the dealers like that...
If anyone does any physical damage that can be seen visually without having to LOOK for it, I´d say get out and exchange info.

Man, I´d say if anyone hits you AT ALL, they better stop.
Guy rear-ended my 94 last month. Basically slid into me while I was stopped to make a left. Now he DID stop, but here´s my point. When I looked at my bumper, I couldn´t really see the damage, it was a rainy dark day and all, but I got the guy´s info anyway, JUST IN CASE. I drove right to a body shop to have it checked, and sure enough, in addition to a slight dent, my bumper now had a crack in it, and the support behind the bumper was bent too. The part of the bumper that comes forward toward the rear wheel was out like an inch from the side of the car. Estimate to repair was $750, and you better believe I called the guy and got the insurance process rolling. Car´s being fixed right now.
When you´ve just been hit, you´re probably not thinking straight, with the shock and all, so be smart and exchange info. You´ll be glad you did!

I´ve been rear-ended more then once. About 4 months ago, my 89 Honda Accord was rear-ended by a Cavilier (this is why I hate Cavi´s) and totaled it. My neck still hurts, and I was in physical therapy the last few months so I can hold my head up with out a brace. I´ve been hit 5 times. All rear-endings, 2 were serious. The other accident, a blazer was pushed into my car. And as angry as I may get, I really wouldn´t do anything if someone does hit me again. I just know that I watch what I´m doing when I´m on the road so I don´t hurt anyone. Why can´t others do the same? The guy that hit my Honda goes to school with me, and he has no idea that I´m still in pain because he was too busy waving at a friend to stop. My car was totaled, as well as his. However my car definately won the battle.

I´ve hit a stopped blazer with my moms Chevy Lumina APV, it was his fault though, that´s right, HIS fault...he was pulling out in front of me and I basically slid into him. My second accident was my fault, I was sitting at a light, when it turned green I tried to go for the left turn, I looked up and noticed the S10 I didn´t see before hand barreling down on me. He hit me so hard that My Geo spun 180 degrees and I was lookin at the car that was sitting right behind me in traffic. guess what? him and the other guy beside him just took off. didn´t stop to ask if i was ok. Those are the only two accidents I´ve been in. one not my fault, one was. My sister was rearended by a blazer in her cavalier and it was totalled...only she didn´t total it, she had it repaired, meaning another Cavy´s rear end was welded to hers...Thats one reason I hate cavy´s, poor crash test ratings. the other reason is that they´re so slow.

I´ve been pretty lucky. I was tapped by a civic in my explorer...She hit my trailer hitch, so I told her I didn´t care if she drove away and delt with the damage as her own.

In the scort...I hit the back of an Aerostar van...I´m still paying off the new rear bumper and paint job on my credit card...but no one was hurt and that´s what was important to me.

My biggest fear is someone hitting me from behind...If they rule my car as totalled...I´ve got to figure out a way to get the turbo, fmic, fuel computer and everything out.

Yeah True...I thought about that when I wrote that...but I didn´t know how else to word it so i let it go. Hit and runs are felonies...and can become attempted murder, use of a deadly weapon, manslaughter, or even murder. So I say stop and see if everyone´s alright, grab their info and if your car is still driveable, Go about your day.

I think people need to learn how to be a little more aware of there surroundings. I personally have been in two accidents (as a driver) myself. Yes the first one was my fault, but I couldn´t see the guy as I was pulling out into traffic (there was a large bush blocking my view), plus I had just gotten my permit like a week ago so I was hardly experienced. Luckily it was my sister´s car I was driving and not my own (of course she wasn´t too happy
). Sadly my other accident was in my scort. I stopped quickly for a pedestrian who wasn´t paying attention to where they were going and the full size chevy truck behind me couldn´t stop in time. Everyone was ok, but the worst part was that I didn´t have insurance at the time. Luckliy there was very little damage to the truck and the guy really didn´t care anyway, but my scort still bears the scars of that day (The guy agreed not to tell the cops I didn´t have insurance if I didn´t make him pay for the damage.) I have pics of the damage, maybe I´ll put them up in the car showcase.

4 accidents in my 3 years of having a license
None my fault (Thank god)
First was in my 88 New Yorker. Driving home from work in November. Guy in a Golf ran a stop sign to turn left infront of me. I T-Boned him. New Yorker VS Golf and the New Yorker was the one to get written off.... Ah well. It was that accident that got me the Mibzcort.

2nd accident, my buddy and I were driving to Tim Hortons, stopped at a light and he slid into my trailer hitch (Came with the car, figured it´d be good for something). Cracked bumper cover, everything else was alright.

3rd happened downtown. It was a one way street with 3 lanes. I was in the middle lane, guy in a Passat (I have horrible luck with VWs) was in the right lane. At an intersection I go straight, he attempts to turn left. Told me he though everybody had to turn left there. He had his license for 3 days, I forgave him. After all, he was paying for the damage he caused and some stuff that was there when I bought the car (Muwahahaha).

Last one is the reason I´m not currently driving the Mibzcort. Last week of high school, end of the day. Our parking lot is two sets of angled parking spots. I back out and start to pull away, Erica guns it in reverse and smokes me. Now although I had 11 witnesses (One being her passenger) willing to fill out reports saying it was her fault, the cops refused to say it was anything but a 50/50. So my insurance skyrocketed and I can´t afford it

Ah well, one day...
