Would a zx2 ford escort make a good race car for a 1/4 mile 22 degree banking track is it better then the older style or what just wondering cuz ive mostly seen older style on the tracks and not many newer styles

If you are referring to the 2nd gen (91-96) as the older ones, the suspension is pretty much the same. Older ones are just probably easier to obtain for a good price. I love my 2nd gen and have some work done for street use.

i use to run a 2001 zx2 2 years ago they are good cars but i think my 96 gt is a little faster but thats on a 3/8 high banked track the gt has a taller 2nd gear so when i raced my zx2 it had to be shifted to 3rd but on a 1/4 or smaller it was pretty fast i once took it to quad cities which is 1/4 and it was a solid top 5 car

k thanks for the help sounds like were building a nice car for next year the zx2s are alot nicer and etc lol and probley easier to get parts for were gonna put the 1.9 in it once we have it rebuilt as we can only run the 1.9s

why can you only use the 1.9 motor what is the motor rule at ur track? the 2.0 to big or is it the duel cam cause if u cant have any bigger then 1.9 go with the 1.8 dohc motor they are waaayyyy faster then the 1.9 ive raced every kind of escort there is and the 1.8 has the best motor imo

I am 1.8L biased as well. All around great little engine.

Wait a minute guys. 1/4 mile tracks are perfect for 1.9 cars. Every time I run a quarter mile track, all the 1.9 SOHC cars outrun the DOHC escorts, as they don't have enough track to get into their powerband, while us guys with the 1.9's can run in our powerband the entire track. I've NEVER seen a DOHC escort in a 1/4 mile track winners circle, while 1.9 escorts are winning 95% of the time. :lol: Thats why I'm keeping my pony for the 1/4 mile tracks and running my protege LX on the bigger tracks. My pony can run circles around any DOHC escort on a 1/4 track. (my best lap time was 15.09 on a quarter mile track with 24* banking, while my grandpa's escort gt's best lap time on the same track at the same race was 15.57. )

I say stick with the 1.9's.

depends on whos drivin the escort dohc when i run them small tracks i use the smallest 14's i can find ive won on 1/5 mile track in my gt and there where fast cars there i just put on the highside and let her rip. actully there is a video of it on youtube it is a macomb speedway but yes for 1/4 or smaller the 1.9s dont fall back as easy as they do on a 3/8 not downin them 1.9s i just love my 1.8 u just have to have the right tire size for the track so u can keep them rpms up

yup. My class limits to 70 series or larger tires, so that limits it my class. I've been debating on switching to an escort pony brake setup on my protege so that I can run 13's, but I'm not sure yet. But it would fly if I did it.

we have to run eaither a 1.8 or the 1.9 as far as tired we run a track tire that is a 185/70/ r14s so what to do but u can pull the 2.0 out of the zx2 and put eaither the 1.9 or 1.8 in without changing stuff rite

u would have to change wire harness and computer and tranny, the mounts are the same and so is everthing else

k thats not bad as u gotta take out alot of wiring and etc when u rewire it for swicths and etc that and to get rid of what u dont need
