I have a quick question on the removal of the drive axles on a 96 5-speed escort and on a 94 5-speed Mazda Protoge. I have done other cars but none with the clip setup.

The Haynes manual seems a bit vague as to the removal on the escort but says there are clips on the inner end of the axle. How do you access these clips? Is there an access panel on the trans? If someone could tell me in detail how to remove the axle assembly, it would be greatly appreciated.

As for the Mazda, I have no Haynes manual for it but it is my understanding that they have clips on thier axles too. Would anyone know if the procedure is the same as the escort's?

Also, what do you folks recommend as the best way to deal with an axle that is stuck in the trans? Just in case.

Thanks
