I have never used studs before so I have a question on how they get installed. I have the studs all installed hand tight as far as they will go down. I have the replacement head on the car and the washers over the studs but there is not enough thread to protrude thru the nut. Should I back up the studs so I get 100% of the threads on the nuts? Please let me know as I want to do this right and not have to go thru all this work again.

I back the studs off from bottoming out about a 1/4 to 1/2 turn.

I'm not sure how you are having this problem unless it's the 2 studs on the end that sit higher than the others?
