Hey. I'm trying to find a good tach in the 2" size-zone to mount (probably) on my steering column. It is for function more than looks, so what i'm asking is does anyone know if this tach is accurate?

I have found other tachs of similar size, but they are all in the $100+ price-range. Just wanting to know what i have to spend to get something decent.

I bought a Sunpro tachometer about 2 yrs ago for my Geo and never installed it. it's about the size of my palm and it included all the wiring & mounting brackets with it. I got it at autozone for like 40 bucks if I remember right. It's pretty small and I'm sure it'll work just fine. too bad I'm keeping it though.

Anyway, check out autozone and see if you can find one.

search for part # atm-3708 & part # atm-3707 (the 3707 is the coolest thing i have ever seen)

i had the 3707 in my old ranger, it was extremely accurate (it actually gave me an idea of where my rev. limiter was) and it looks hotter than hott.

if you want accuracy, vdo or autometer are they way to go.
sunpro is no more accurate than your stock guage, which both are absolutely horrible.

Well too bad. I have it in writing that you said that. Anyway, I wanted to know where my Geo redlined at, so i bought that one. I'm sure it isn't the best thing you can buy for accuracy but it's not like it's going to be way way off.

let me take back my previous remarks about how un-accurate the cheap tachs are.. they are in fact very accurate.. the precision is the horrible part.. they're very accurate at being horrible.. which means if they're 800rpm off, they always will be :)

and yes, if you have a geo, just get the $30 one.

I don't think I like this statement. My Geo was 100 times better than the Escort has been. It was a 91 with 76k miles on it. that thing was basically in perfect mechanical condition. the only thing was it had 55 whopping hp. I had planned on building it up a little. but one night I turned in front of an S10 and he demolished my front drivers side quarter panel. So I don't have it anymore. I would have spent whatever it took to make that car look the way I wanted it to. I loved that little car.

I feel your pain, my brotha.
The car i had before my egt was a '93 Festiva, 1.3liter 64hp I4. Let me tell of a few of the mods i had done.

I ran a tube from the intake to the front bumper with no air filter.
I cut the exhaust off from the middle of the cat back (i cut the cat in half)
Gutted, no speakers, radio, rear seat, carpet, interior panels, insulation, only half of the dash, and most of the interior aluminum panels were
sawzalled out. The car weighed 1085lbs. with me in it.
:) notice the tach in the air vent in the following pics. part# atm-3708
i just can't get down with the geo's. i need 4 cylinders.

Here are a few pics before i took out some of the dash

I will love that car until the day i die. Nothing is better than making ricers cry. Or bringing tears to the eye of the kid with the 5.0 that got jumped off the line by the festiva.

And james, just to see how smart you really are, what is the white car in the background of the first pic??
:) first person with the correct answer get's $3 through paypal.

That's not about being smart. it's about not having a life there...I have no clue what that car is but I'm gonna guess Chyrsler conquest? :?

I would never have gutted that Geo though. it was my grandpas old car, and he woulda had a heart attack if he came over and seen it stripped down to nothing. the Geo only weighed 1808 lbs plus me. There's a turbo kit for the Geo that would have doubled the torque (58 to 116 lb ft), that would have surprised quite a few 5.0s.

yea man, can't gut grandpa's car.. i wouldn't be able to put a tach in my grandpa's car either though.. :) if i didn't, it'd have to be a nice one

and it's a merkur xr4ti

basically it's a rwd, 2.3liter turbo 175hp, 230ft/lb escort imported from germany.. independent rear end, top speed 140+. :) it's an economy cosworth escort from the '80's
