ive replaced many a power steering rack. i am planning a bpt gt build and was wondering if you remove the pump but leave the rack will the lack of power hurt the manual steering box

i should have written that question better will it be dangerous to run a power steering rack with no power steering

I had my pressure line rupture a few years back. I drained what I could and left the system alone and without a drive belt. When the line blew, I cut the belt off on the side of the road just to save the pump and mess. I have been meaning to get it replaced, but not a priority. It has been fine since, just harder to turn at low speeds. I can see it putting more stress on some components though.

yes its hard on it...ive heard of the rack locking up after so long....

find a nothin special lx with manual steering an take that rack....

id love to have one of those

Be ware that the ratio for the manual rack is different from the power assisted ones. It takes more revolution(s) to go lock to lock. Column also may be splined different based on year as well.

As long as you keep fluid in the lines and loop them by the alternator you shouldn't run into any problems. Just make sure you keep the lines as full as you can get them.
