I have a 93 LX Escort 5-spd with 191,000 miles on the clock. I have been having a problem with the car running rough (like sputtering along -almost like misfiring) at ~2,000 -> 2,800 rpms. It only happens at this engine speed, usually while maintaining a constant speed. The car runs fine otherwise. I have changed the plugs and wires, changed the Crank Position Sensor, Throttle Position Sensor, Mass Air Flow and Oxygen sensor. It didn´t help. What do you think could be causing this intermittent problem? I am stumped and so are several mechanics that I have questioned. Has anyone else had this problem?

Have you replaced the ignition module itself? I did some work on a Mustang once that had a prob similar to that, and it turned out to be a cheap ignition module that had gone bad. I haven´t looked under the hood of a Gen 2 GT before, so I´m not sure what kind of Ignition module you have, but if it is a TFI module (Flat plastic thing connected to the side of the distributor with a connector comming off of it) There are some test you can do with a multi-meter to check it out, or take it to an Auto Zone if you have one buy you, they usually have a tester to plug it into. But don´t buy one there if it is bad. Only buy TFI Modules from the a Ford Dealership parts department. You might pay a bit extra, but it will be worth it. The mustang I refered to earlier had the module replace because they though it was what was causing thier original problem. They replaced it with an aftermarket brand and it when south in a matter of minutes causeing the spitting and sputtering. Replaced it with a Motorcraft part and Bada Bing all gone.
