Have a problem with my 93 escort 1.9 Lx.

Started to get "Virtual cruise control" like a stuck throttle, when driving. usually around 2000rpm then continue to climb like I was still on it.

Idle is a bit rough, Been like that for a while, no other lights came on.. etc.

Checked out the throttle cable and TB all seemed okay, Problem continued, Reset ECu, still same problem.

Disconnected the IAC, Idles like crap now, but problem has gone away, and drives perfectly fine, So that rules out my Maf or Tps.

I figure It's the IAC or something that controls the IAC.

I am just learning about cars, If anybody can shed some light on my problem, it would be appreciated.

A new IAC is expensive, so should I take mine off and clean it? What should I clean it with... ?

Thankyou.

You can take it off and soak it with carb cleaner or brake cleaner. That will usually loosen most of the built up gunk inside it.

Well, I cleaned and soaked the non electronic part in carb cleaner for about 2 hours.. then cleaned it some more.. a lot of black carbon(i assume) was build up in it. (so much you couldn't see the spring)

Now.. it still does the same thing (idles better now).. But.... on the other hand.. it only revs up to 2000+ rpm.. It used to go up to 4300+ and stop. (on it's own)

so...what does this tell me? I did not do a through cleaning? or the IAC is Kaput, and I need a new one ?

ALso.... I also have a 5L mustang and the Iac on that looks similar, can I swap it to see what happens? or are they different resistances ?

thanks for the help.

-Update-

So, talked to a "specialist" at a parts store and he suggested I use Brake and electrical contact cleaner on the IAC.

I soaked the Iac in that cleaner for 6 hrs, and sprayed it till I was satsified.

Installed it back in the car ... Idles like a hot damn, And the problem has gone away, once in a while I get a Blip like it's back.. but atlas it goes away in a milisecond.

Problem 1 solved !

Woohoo!, now I get to replace the heater Core! (problem 2)
