Hey,

My 95 escort is idling like crap all of a sudden so I have been searching around here for solutions and have a few questions.

I don't have a check engine light on but how do you check for codes anyway?

I have a feeling my MAF is bad because the idle doesn't change whether its connected or not, is this a good way to check it?

Also, the car is hard to start but will not stall, it will just idle low and stumble.

The exhaust smells right, the oil looks good and I don't think there are vacuum leaks.

One more thing, if I unplug the AIC plug the engine will stall, so I think its good.

Should I go for a new MAF?

I found the problem, The egr Valve seems to be causing the bad idle. When I disconnected the vacuum line from the egr valve the idle went back to normal. Re attach and idle goes south. So is it as simple as replacing the egr valve then?

How many miles are on the car?
Have you checked for vacuum leaks, espically the PVC valve? Get a MityVac to check for vacuum leaks.
Clean the MAF. Use your SEARCH button to find out how, but it's real easy.
How old are the plug and what brand? Bosch dosn't work good in these cars.
How many miles on the O2 sensor?

If indeed it is the EGR, then yes...it is that east. :lol:
