I LIKE IT :D

Now I only need to figure out a way to build one so that you could depress the number on the ball to make it shift my auto 8O

At the T.O. May meet a guy stole a #1 ball (Yellow) form a pool hall, drilled out a hole and threaded it, adn he said it works great, so it will work and someone has done this already.

The car was a ZX2, but thats still an escort

I replaced my shift knob with the mid 90's honda shift knob. I'd hate to say it, but I like a lot of the stuff honda makes. Their stuff is smarter and better looking than our stuff... the engineering is smarter and more efficient. I really like their stuff, so when I go to the boneyard I'll study it over and such. I'm thinking of pulling the seats from one of them because they're nice seats and they are much much narrower than the stock GT seats so I won't slide around.

Sorry, got side tracked...

I put the honda shift knob on my EGT and I like it a LOT. It's smaller and more ergonomic. I can feel my shifts more precisely, which is nice. A pool ball would be very large and wouldn't have good feedback because your hand is contorted when it's on it. For looks, sure. Shag carpeting, fuzzy dice... hell it would be pimp. But in all practicality, I'd stay stock or maybe upgrade to a MOMO or something like that. I've driven cars with round knobs and they really detract from the feel overall. Maybe try cutting a tennis ball and putting it over and getting a general idea for the look and feel before you actually do it, because I have a strong feeling that it will be too large feeling and will make the entire linkage feel kinda top heavy and unresponsive.

Still though, an 8 ball would be pretty pimp. If you could get a miniature 8 ball, then it would be practical.

save yourself a lot of trouble and buy one pre-made for a shift knob. they're plenty of people who sell them like
here.

they're likely cheaper balls made out of casing resin or even polyester more suited for drilling. Honestly, I doubt most home drills would be able to get a good hole in a pool ball, they're made to be tough as nails. just please dont follow the example of the guy who stole one from a pool hall. Full sets are expensive, and if it was a nice pool hall using aramith phenolic resin balls (the good stuff), someone will definitely be ****. good luck, 8-ball shift knobs can be found on ebay for as little as $2.99

oh and flameball.com always has nice stuff

actually, you'd be surprised how comfortable it is. i've had my 8ball shifter for about 1½ years, and it fits the hand very nicely. i don't grip on the top though, i hold it nearer to the base, and since it's larger than most shifters, there's no chance to slip off. it's still just as easy shift, plus the 'looks sw33t' bonus
