Depends... is your car rust free and the paint in amazing shape? If so don't. If it is in need of paint, then why not

Maaco gave me an estimate of about $800 to paint (not plasti-dip) the hood, roof and rear hatch of my Tracer. The clear coat is peeling bad and the paint is fading. Has anyone tried plasti-dip on their car?

If you search the internet you should find plenty of people who did this to other cars. I recommend avoiding MAACO, they use crap for paint. My Rustoleoum paint job lasts longer than their crap, and I really recommend using something better than Rustoleum (since it has no UV blocker and fades).

My car has several small dings and dents from hail damage, backing into the side of the garage and so on. I'm not looking for showroom new, mostly I want to fix the clearcoat that has been fading (the roof is almost completely stripped of clearcoat, hood probably around 40% stripped, and the rear hatch is just starting to fade). I've looked at pics of cars with plasti-dip and they don't look bad, would it be more cost effective than MAACO?
