ahhhh yes, the snowy weather is upon us, and that means more torture for our cars....
you know the plastic lining on the bottom of the side windows on 2nd gen? ...and how they seem to peel, or flake, or fall off or whatever?
yeah, a huge chunk of mine came off when i was scraping off the snow/ice off my windows today.
now i know there was a previous thread that pertained to this sorta thing, but couldnt find it, so here i am. does anyone know the proper name to the plastic lining, or am i dead-on with the name? that, and where could i find replacements and for how much?

Or you could remove your old ones, peel/burn all the crappy rubber off and either polish the magnesium (I know they're not alumninum since I can't get them to shine like aluminum), or re-paint them.

I know there was a post about this (Turbo I think???) replaced his.

Another project to finsih when I get time :?

Hiyas...

Yes, I replaced mine on my 93 wagon. They are called beltline mouldings, and can be ordered/purchased through your local Ford dealership. I don't know of any company that makes an aftermarket replacement, so ya gotta pay the FoMoCo prices...

The two front ones on my car were somewhere in the neighborhood of $45.00 each... the two rear doors were $55.00 each.

Removal of the old and installation of the new is just about the easiest job I've ever done on a car. Simply pull up the old ones (probably breaking some/all of the plastic retaining clips [not to worry -- the new ones come with new retainer clips already attached]) and snap the new ones into place. You'll probably need to remove your side mirror(s), but that's easy enough (3 screws).

I got some test side mouldings from the wreckers to see how they'd look polished only to find out they're not aluminum. I went around to other scorts to get the clips and stuck as many as I could on the back. $5 for the mouldings and a good supply of clips

I replaced mine with ones from a junkyard. If you want to repaint be sure to remove and reinstall them very carefully. They bend real easy and you can't undo the bend.
How hard were you pulling on them to bend them :?

Related question,

What is the name of the moulding that actually contacts the window. I went to my local dealership today and he said they were part of the beltline mouldings. Is that true? They wanted 55.00 for them, but I'm hoping to do better.
