I have a 95 LX. Since it was new, it has pinged in warm weather (say above 85 degrees F / 30 C). I put in higher octane gas, and that fixes the problem. Do other people see this same problem, or is there something wrong with my car?
The 1.9i, unfortunately, does not have a knock sensor. In warmer weather, the engine prob. runs a little hotter and will start pinging under load. The fact that higher octane gas solves the prob tells me that it is most likely not a mechanical problem. You just have to downshift and back off the throttle when it happens, or run higher octane gas. There isn´t really any other solution sinse the ignition timing is not adjustable w/o modification to the car.
