I have been looking for original performance stats on an Escort for awhile now, and I was wondering if anyone on here would have any. I am looking for 0-60, 1/4, top speed and the like. The only thing I have found is that an 1983 egt was supposed to do 60 in 11 seconds.

I think the LX would do a 17 second quarter mile...or that was 0-60...not sure.

The '83 GT was a turbo model...120 hp in a car that was around 2000 pounds for that year.

Top speed I would guess is around 110 mph, as my car will cruise there, but doesn't like to go faster. I think it's aerodynamics and lack of power causing it.

Turbos didn't come till '84. 83 gt was mpfi. Anyway, my '82 w/carbed 1.9 does 0-60 in about 10.3 if my math is right.

I am pulling that from the Standard Catalog of American Cars 1975- 1999 It doesn't list turbo's as option on Escorts or EXPs till the 84 model year. It could be wrong, but that woud be a rather serious error.

Here are my stats from my car. 0-60 in about 11 sec, 1/4 in 17.0 at 80ish mph with a bit of a spin. Completely stock, except for I was running open header.

How many miles on the engine? And auto or stick? Also, about were does a stock first gen top out? Is it computer limited or is it a power/aero limitation?

Bam, unexploded nailed it.

I don't think my 0-60 time is accurate at all. After I looked at it; it would mean that it takes me 11 seconds to get to sixty, and 6 more seconds to go up 20mph. I guess it's possible, I don't remember my 1/8th times.

Motor had around 116k on it. I could have easily pulled off a mid/high 16, but I had bald tires and spun too much. I plan on doing a better intake setup and advance the timing some just to see if I can sqeeze a little more out before diving into the 'big boy' stuff.

I read that a stock GT (86-90) does 0-60 in 8.9 sec. and a 1/4 mi. in 16.8 sec. Power ranges from 108 bhp to 117 bhp depending on where you read. One source stated that 85.5-88 has 108 bhp, and 88.5-90 has 110 bhp (probably due to putting roller cams in the later ones). Another source I read stated that the GTs came with 117 bhp.

According to the Oil Filter Application Guide I have at work, turbos only came on the 84-85 EXPs, and the 85 EGT, and they supposedly came with 120 bhp. A lot of sources I've read would seem to dispute the years, but they all state 120 bhp. Who knows?

I hope this is what you're looking for.

Everything I've ever read on first gens said that the later model CFI models all made around 86hp at the crank, and the GTs made 110hp at the crank.

I know my 88 GL made 60hp to the wheels, have yet to dyno this one; but I'd guess somewhere around 80-85 to the wheels. Will be doin it soon.

Wiki claims a 115 HP rating on the 87 EXPs with the HO motor, but that's probably bogus info, or else Ford actually dyno'd EXPs and Escorts separately and came out with slightly different results.

Anyhow, I don't see that the nitty gritty details of these specs really serve any purpose to us, since all it boils down to after so many years is that we all have roughly 80HP cars (unless you're running a brand new engine.)

I just wanted a couple of numbers to serve as a comparison for my performance. Since I don't have access to a dyno, The only way I can really estimate power is by comapring my dragstrip numbers to other Escorts that do have strip numbers and hp numbers. Since I run a bit of an unusual combo, I just wanted the comparison. (1.9 with cfi pistons, 1.6 hemi head, carb jetted up a couple of sizes, cast exhaust manifold, Autolite 764 plugs, and an accel coil on the engine, and a 4 speed with a worn out clutch.)

Ford rated the roller cam CFI @ 90 crank hp, and the roller cam GT engine @ 110...they used a different cam profile between roller and non-roller because the power peaks are different.

I need to take mine to the local 1/8th mile track and see what it can do on the Kumhos.

I worrk at a 1/4mile strip, and I race for free; which pretty much gives me a good basis to know where my cars stand.
