Okay, my 95 EGT needs to pass inspection tommorrow, and the parking brake is the only thing holding it back from doing so. The brake *barely* works.

You can feel the resistance of the cable when you pull up on the ebrake handle, but I have tracked the problem down to a seized lever on the brake caliper.

When I say lever, I mean how the parking brake cable attaches to a little lever thing on the brake caliper, and that lever will no longer turn freely.

anyway, how do I fix this?

I must be having the same problem. I have to really crank on the thing to get any resistance out of it, and forget about trying to set it on a hill, the thing just rolls :/

Siragan: I'd like to know what lever you're talking about so I can take a look at it. Could you maybe take a peecture? Thanks.

I had that problem. I tried to free it up but I'm told there's no way. There's seizing happenning inside the guts. The best way is to buy a rebuilt caliper(you get some back for your old one) You won't believe the difference! you would never have got it that free on the old one no matter what you do.

Your lever isn't frozen, its already turned as far as it goes. loosen your parking brake adjuster nut hidden in the center console. then go to the calipers and adjust the rear brakes a little tighter (that hidden goofy bolt). then try the parking brake again.

Had the same prob Sirigan, to my driver's side caliper. I read in a past past post that they aren't rebuildable so I just replaced it. I did exactly what Birddog said since my driveway has an incline I kept adjusting til it held. Hope that was some help.

ive had the same problem, but now its all fixed. I bought this car in September and the ebrack barely held and i figured my drivers rear caliper was siezed. I bought a reman. for $80 Canadian(i got a deal). After that, when it got cold, my ebrake would freeze up and stay on, (not fun). so i replaced my drivers e-brake cable. The e-brake still dragged a bit so i adjusted the cable at the calipers so the wheels didnt drag in the 1st and click, but would barely drag on the 2nd click. (i had the rear jacked up so the wheels were off the ground. Then i adjusted the e-brake handle throw. Think thats it!
