So I've owned this car for a while now, and it started draining the battery whenever it's shut off. I know it could be the alternator but it'll start up just fine. The starter turns just fine and I can't figure out what the problem is. I did an OBDII on start up and it says everything is good. The battery just drains and I can't figure it out. A friend of mine said it might be the diode on the alternator but I'm not so sure. I checked the fuses and everything is good. This problem just came out of nowhere and now I can't seem to find the problem. Any help would be appreciated.

Charge the battery, then check its voltage. The battery may be going bad. If the battery is good. Do this.

Around 1:15 mark he gets into the details.

You're on the right track. Google "Parasitic Drain" and you'll find guidance on using a milliammeter (multimeter) to isolate the cause. Provided it's not a bad battery.

It's a good battery, it's the second one I've had. The first oneI bought was a bad battery plus the drain. I got it replaced with the current but now it's just the drain. Thanks for the video, I've seen his stuff before and I'll see if it can help.

do you have any aftermarket equipment (stereo, amplifier, lights, etc) hooked up to your car?

do you have illuminated sun visors?

I was going to suggest temporarily pulling each fuse and putting the test leads in it's place however after seeing this, his method may be more efficient. Benefit to the my method is you're less likely to overload your meter with combined draw. He is very thorough...

My 1993 is a 1.9 SW but I notice that the lamps in the vanity mirrors sometimes stay on; the drain is so small, and I drive it so often that it never became an issue; those little lamps can surprise you; my lady with a 1998 Blazer has similar problem but never drives it enough to keep it charged, so it runs her battery down; I finally taped up the little pin that was not making contact; my mom years ago in a Chrysler sumpin' had the glove box lamp staying on... etc, BUT yours might not be that easy....

    Good luck,
