Had some time to paint up my new drums before I wait 3 months to put them on

Stock Drums,

+ 3 coats of hight heat white and 8+++ Coats of Blue Metal Cast

=

I don't think the pics do them justice. In person they are a beautiful deep transpearant blue colour.

Another teaser of things to come in the next three to four months:

NOOOOOOOOO!!!

Why did you do that?!

It's nice work, but it looks horrible!

Drum brakes are not something to be proud of... painting them is stupid. It's like putting a giant "Hundai" windshield banner up. Um.. news flash- owning a hundai is not something to be proud of. Instead of wasting your money on painting your stupid crappy drum brakes you should have used it to buy the rear axle out of a GT and put on some respectable discs.
On the plus side, it's nice looking work. That's more than can be said about most of the escort-modders out there.
My 2 cents.

If I had drum brakes, I'd pull the drums out and paint them silver. Then, I'd hand-paint on fake red calipers. That way, it would LOOK like I had discs in back. Ha. That would be hilarous.
</rant>

If you're happy with it, then that's all that counts. Congrats either way.

OH SH*T! he's got an air brush!!! *puts hands in the air, not making any sudden movements*

not too shabby. that's what i need to do. the color of corrosion won't get me laid like a good set of freshly painted calipers & drums..

Ha ha Deathslinger, Nobody get's hurt if they don't move 8O

Actually it's my new HVLP automotive paint gun. Gonna paint the car after I fix all the rust on the body. Cheaper than a new car. I do have an airbrush though, just not skilled at it like the mad airbrushing you see on some cars. Baically used it as a small paint gun for painting models back in the day.

Sirigan,

Yeah, I agree about the whole drum vs disc issue, but I can't buy GT rear discs for less than $15. I don't know about in your wrecking yards, but in the ones I hit finding a GT is rare and 100% of the time the rears are gone for that very reason

Why the first three coats of white paint?
Notice how one drum is black, the other grey? The coats of white gave me an equal base colour to work with so both the drums would look the same when done.

And why didn't you prime it first?
The black and grey paint was used as my primer. I scuffed it with a scotch brite pad and went to town on it with the paint. I didn't need to re-prime because I already had a base coat.

If you can find some sandable primer to use in that paint gun, let me know. That stuff is hard to find!
