Hey guys, im looking into getting the pacesetter catbak system. Im curious though how it sounds. I dont want it to sound stock.. does anyone here have it? Also, what kind of performance increase does it offer compared to those universal "fart pipes" that claim to offer 4-7hp gain (more like 2-3 at the wheels). I basically need to know which one to go with, thanks!

well...I don´t have one...BUT I have been seeing a White Escort with a "Die Yuppie Scum" around the north part of my city and when we were right behind this car, which had what looked like the Pacesetter system (which as far as I can tell, is the only system out there) it sounded deeper and much better than stock. I´m sure it freed up a few horses.

I´m happy to report that my Pacesetter catback for the 1.8l came yesterday. Spent the evening going over it, checking the welds, finish, etc due to problems other people have had with the quality of Pacesetter work. Glad to say it passes the test. Welds are flawless, finish is excellent. Package arrived well padded and secured. They even had triple the protection on the chromed tips. A check of the hardware revealed quality pieces. After listening to some of the posts about their poor-quality, I´m so happy to see that mine´s arrived in great shape. Planning on installing Friday afternoon, maybe Saturday. Can´t wait to try it out. I´ll post a full report WITH PICTURES OF THE INSTALL afterwards. Might be able to get a sound file as well. We shall see. But for now, I´m stoked and can´t wait until the workday is OVER.

Pacesetter is okay but not great. My exhaust is all custom, didn´t cost that much either...but You´d have to hear it. It´s really deep. Lil too loud for most but for me I would rather listen to a motor then passengers.

Nuke, the link you posted is for the header for the 1.9 liter. Not the 2nd gen GT. I agree that the 1.9 header is built totally wrong, 1 and 3 exhaust ports shouldn´t be combined, that just ruins exhaust tuning and scavenging. My header for the 1.8 is built correct, with ports 1 & 2 and 3 & 4 combined. The catback by Pacesetter also showed good quality in the welds, very little intrusion into the airway. It would appear that they make decent parts for the 1.8 GT, but not the previous 1.9-based GT (first gen).
