I have a '97 Escort LX with only 60,000 miles. I had new front brake pads, rotors and rebuilt calipers installed in November. Now I notice an orange color behind the front the front wheels, which I'm concerned may be rust. I can see the discoloration looking from the side of the car through the aluminum spoke wheels.

We had rain and strong winds in New Jersey recently, but the unusual color may have been there for a while and I wasn't paying attention. The brakes squeaked just a little after the repair was done, but otherwise they seem to perform OK.

Should I be concerned about the brake job that was done and the parts that are now in there? If it's rust it seems like something will need to be replaced. Thanks in advance for your replies.

Its normal for some brake parts to rust; including rotors and calipers. But they dry out in seconds, when the car is driven. There is no paint or other coating that will keep them from corroding either. But the corroding is normal. The paint burns off, the rusty grease remains.

It seems as though some rotors do rust over quicker than others. Suspect it just depends on their composition. The rotors on my new car rust over pretty quickly and easily. I don't remember the more expensive Wagner brand replacement rotors on my 'scort doing that.
