Okay I just want opinions of what I should get. I have a 93gt but im kind of getting tired of it. Its a good car but im scared its not reliable. I got a lot work done to it but a valva knocks it seems to idle rough, theres 91 lx I think the guy said its a 90 but its a 2nd gen so im assuming, its blue with black bumpers looks decent actually. Inside is pretty clean mine cleaner but it looks like an okay car. Im leaving for military soon and my g/f will be driving me car so I wanted something that might be more reliable. All i know is it has a new tranny an I think mines going. I was hoping the guy might trade me if i trade my car and some money for that escort. I want opinions. are 1.9s fun to?

although the 1.9 is only 88hp.... its a peppy lil 4banger! the 1.9s are a blast to drive, the first time i drove my scort i released the clutch slow and got on da gas hard pullin up a hill.. chirpin tires all the way! u wont regret getting it, they are utterly reliable, and when ya get back from the military you can turbo it, and have a nice lil sleeper

He said hed call after he talked it over with some people. I was planning on doing the 1.8 swap before I leave hopefully if I can find people to help because I know an escort I can get them (the parts) from

you think the 1.9 is great you should drive in a gt... with my 205 50 15 rubber i car chirp into second... with my 195 60 14s all seasons i could get them to scream on dry pavement (into second) not just a chirp... more than a chirp... i can chirp my tires all the way through first on level ground.... anyway enough 1.8> 1.9 talk. i must also say that the 1.8 is also MUCH easier to turbo... when my setup is complete i will have purchased everything from the muffler to the manifold, rx7 vaf to throttlebody, injectors to ecu, fuel pump to... well fuel pump... for just under 1500 dollars ready to bolt on and spool... there is more fabrication required for the 1.9, not so much bolt on and spool.

i think the 1.9 would be an awesome choice but i must say 2 things

1 if you think, "oh 1.9 family car probably better gas milage" not so much... my cousin had a 94 lx that was mint with like 94k on the odo and he gets the same gas milage out of his 92 gt with almost 160k on the clock.

2 reliability... they are both similar, if your gt is dying sure it would be great to get rid of it for a fresher car.

all in all (asside from the first mentiond thought) if you are fearing for the safety of your g/f driving a dying gt... do whatever it takes to get her in a reliable car. the 1.9s are great motors, but i must say if your interested in a 1.8 swap i think the best bang for the buck would be to find an lxe (like what i have) the 4 door with gt everything... seats, brakes, motor drivetrane.

whatever you choose good luck

here this is what i really ment :)

you think the (stock) 1.9 is great you should drive in a (stock) gt...

There both good car's. Yeah head work will help. But I'd rather swap in a 2.0 SPI than bother with head work on the 1.9.
The power you get out of it depends on how much money and time you have. You'll get more out of some mod's then other.

the 1.9 is a lil more reliable id say, simply due to the fact that its a solid design with less room for stuff to go wrong.. and its easier to work on if needed.

how much power out of a 1.9? well, if you opt to not do an SPI swap, you can do like me and get nearly 140hp out of it.

the amount of money invested is large.. but it was worth it to me.

very good head work can get you about 20-25hp additional to what you'd have stock. the insides of the 1.9 head are pretty nasty. lots of room for improvment.

can you just unbolt the exhaust manifold and remove the head unlike the 1.8 where you need to remove all that other stuff?

If four doors is a major selling point, get an LX-E or Tracer LTS. I wish I had gotten that one I found for 1500...

As far as I know the weight difference between 4 and 2 doors is about 50-100 lbs.

anyways... on a 1.9, the head removal is easy.

remove exhaust manifold, remove coolant hoses, unplug injectors and sensors in the head, undo the fuel lines, take off timing belt, remove head bolts and lift off. basically.

intake can stay on, which is nice cuz it provides a good handle to lift by.

yeah i have an lxe... good times, i like it alot and really honestly i dont think i would love escorts as much as i do if i had an lx. i raced my cousin like 2 yrs ago when i first got my lxe he had a 94 lx and it was not even a race i had him beat from the line to braking it wasent even close. i love acceleration. if its for your gf id keep it slow anyway, you way of helping her not get tickets ;)

exactly, mines a gt so I want an lx for her. she can haul but, and my car seems to shake at stop lights. Not really bad but a little and considering shes new to driving I think it would make her nervous that it will die or something so id rather have one tht doesnt do that so she is confident when shes driving.

How do you double post with an hour and a half difference???

you can't change your screenname, but you can start a new name... but that won't help with the double posting.
