    Hi folks,

Weather is due to improve a whole bunch in a few weeks, well, in theory, so I'm thinking I might get out to some wreckers and look for stuff. So, what good yards are there that are in the area that's between about a line south and a line west of Toronto, without getting very far towards Windsor. Basically, Golden Horsehoe and environs.

I usually hate "we pull" yards, they charge wayyyy too much and more often than not damage parts they're trying to get off in a hurry. I'd particularly be interested in yards that keep older stuff too, got some 80s vehicles to support.

What's usually the deal with the "all you can carry" days that some places have, where do you find out about them? Also what's usually the routine with those? Sometimes I end up going into a u-pull with like a tool box a full socket set and a floor jack, which is getting kinda loaded up already, do you get to run out with your tools and then come back for your parts or what?

Thank in advance for any wisdom,

    Road Warrior

    Hmmm found one....

But it's a little out of the way for me, not sure I wanna drive that long. Regular prices look pretty reasonably. $50ish for a head, instead of $150 they want round here.

I'd hop over to their new Niagara Falls NY location, but not sure what kind of hassle I'd have with customs on the way back.

Standard has "Free parts day" which is the only all you can carry day that I know of. A $50 gate charge gets you in and you walk out with all you can carry. Carry a bunch of junk out and want in again? It's another $50. Keep in mind with standard the free parts are limited to a certain model year and older.

The two yards I always deal with are A1 Auto wreckers in Brantford, and their sister yard Cambridge Auto wreckers. They have about the best prices of the yards near by, but have a slightly older inventory compared to the more expensive yards. I've also dealt with Bodyline in Hamilton, IIRC they were a U-pull. Mikes autowrecking is not a U-pull. There's also a huge yard up near Barrie area. I've never been there myself, but I've heard it's absolutely huge.

There's so many yards, just open up a phone book. If it doesn't say in their ad you can pull your own parts give them a call and they'll tell you.

No problems with bringing parts back across the border. Just pay GST and PST on the value of them if they were free.

I went to Standards free parts day back in October. They had quite a few escorts, as well as MX3s. Definitely had a good day. I was under the impression that the cars had to be 15 years or older, but there were 2 3rd Gens there.

Every once in a while they have new cars. I've seen 03's and 04's there.

Stanadars free parts day is good. You can usually get a lot of stuff, they always have quite a bit of BG cars there.

I love my yard. There's no "all you can carry" days, but it doesn't matter. It's way too far out of your way, but I pretty much consider that place a second home.

If there's anything in particular you can't find, I can take a look here.

We should make this a meet. The Candian Neon Nationals are on Sunday May 6th so I think I'll be headed to St. Thomas for a bit of racing, so who's down for the Saturday May 5th? We can meet up there, pull some parts, then do the usual Boston Pizza car meet/gong show.

I'm so pulling a tranny if I go there.

fixxitmattman i was kinda thinking the same thing as i read this post. we could make it a meet help each other get what we need for our cars then go for some food somewhere... i think itd be a great idea although my escort won't be painted by then but i can still grab some parts that i need and anyone local to me might be able to catch a ride and load my truck full of parts. just an idea... see how much interest there is first tho. btw i live in the hamilton area so anyone close to my area wanting a ride or needing something a little bigger than an escort to haul parts could possibly hitch a ride with me.. msg me if interested for th may 5th or 6th depending if we have a meet and whatnot.

Who cares if your car isn't painted. I rolled for a week with my scort sanded and in primer

I'll be down the road in Brantford, we can convoy down and convoy with others we pick up along the way too.

Post up if you want to go and what day. If there's enough interest we'll start an official meet thread for this.

    Add on to this list:
    fixitmattman -> Saturday May 5th
