notice the lens in the gun? if you're over hte duck then it see's it.

I think.

honestly i've always wondered that myself. but there's no sensors on a normal tv screen so it's all in the gun/game.

well, most of those guns are "light guns, so I think the lens shoots a light that bounces back of the screen and if it's on the target it somehow changes the light and the gun knows.... but that's just my guess. I know that since it still has a cord that the gun needs ot send the info to the system through that so the lens must be used to locate the aim for the gun...

I just know that it's not a laser. :/
I can't be based purely off of reflection, however, since the TV screen is curved, and you can shoot from a bit of an angle and still hit where light would normaly bounce completely away. Also, I've noticed that, sometimes depending on the TV, that if you shoot and miss, a duck-sized white square appears on the screen momentarily, but it's not just a reflection of light; it's a distinct pixelized square. And there my un-knowledge for you all.

The nintendo gun works this way.Just like juggernaut said.there is this white square that is embedded into the game.So anytime you shoot at a duck it will register as a hit or miss.

I think it does have something to do with reflection off of the curved TV, cuz I cant play duck hunt on my rear projection TV, (Flat Plastick Screen)

There was a TV show that worked the same way. It was called Captain Power and the something something. It was shot in an old bus barn in Toronto in the late 80s. The bad guy was played by David Hemblen. I once worked there putting baseboard heaters in the dressing rooms. The charachters had these flashy things on their chests. You bought a gun at K mart just for this show. You could shoot the bad guy if you had a good guy gun or vice versa, and a point would show on your gun, but if it flashed your gun while you aimed it, a thing would pop out of the gun and you'd have to reset it.

Well, I searched around about it, and what happens, it the TV is acutally shooting the gun as they worded it. When the gun is shot, it does some light to dark stuff, and the gun is reading something..... here's the link

http://www.straightdope.com/columns/010511.html

It also has a link to another website that tells you more stuff......

By the way, there are places to search for info other than on here! LOL! this was the first site I looked at (second on the list) I found with the search "how does the duck hunt gun work?" on YAHOO.
