nice systems don't run off deck power. an amp of some sort is going to be needed if you are going to want it done right.

why can i not just use a high quality high power head unit, and a desent set of speakers such as the infineity refernce(bad spelling). most of the speakers i have been looking into are only rated to 50-65 watts and head units are rated near the same for output power.

i am not adding subs and such, i rarely listen to the stock radio in the car now past 30% of its power.

but because i am getting older the bass and mids mix alot and i have a hard time understand what is being said no matter how loud or quiet i have it set for.

in my opion, which don't mean much, once you start adding amps and cross overs you really start making it very compicated and with the electical draw you start putting a real strain on the altenator, and battery. also this system would have to be simple to use since my wife (going in her car) would be the primary user.

Adding an amp actually helps witht the clarity and sound of the system. Not just making it louder.

they amplifier built into a deck doesn't produce its rated wattage nor does it produce anywhere near the sound quality of an after market amp. i have scope tested them. i know this first hand.

ok, then with the requirements of what i stated earlier, what wouldyou sujest? please remember, sound quality is much more important then volume.

    under $500

    awesome sound for the price.

ease of use (large button, simple layout)

am/fm...with maybe hd(not sure if it is in my area) cd with the hook ups to add an mp3 ipod my xm unit.

i would be willing to keep the factory head unit if the unit would have had cd player atleast.

Go to crutchfield.com and you can pull up the outfit my car. Im not sure what year or gen your car is. You will be able to find exactly what you are looking for there. Its a good place to start looking to see whats available in your price range. Then once you find what you want you can start price looking around for the models you find you like.
