how often do zx2 owners change the oil? manual says every 5,000 but i always heard every 3,000 miles.

whats the word?

i change every 5000Km´s. go with 3000 miles, your car will love you more ;-)

Yeah, go 3000 miles, especially once your up and over like 80k miles. You´ll get more life out of your car.

The manual say 5,000 miles, but i noticed that after 3000 it gets a little rough. remember that thing only calls for 5w20 oil. I said to hell with that I change at 3,000 miles and use 5w30 sythetic.

Nothing wrong with 20w-50 on an older engine.. usually everything runs a little more smoothly on thick oil... just not in the dead of winter.

The 5000 is if you drive regularly on the freeway for 20 miles or more, and you never hit traffic and you never dive in the city. So unles you do that 3000 is the best bet. As far as the oil type goes, if the manual says 5w20 use 5w20. I don´t car if the 5w30 is syntetic or not, 30 viscocity is 30 viscosity. That oil will not flow as well as the 5w20 through the passages and bearings.

You know I thought about the oil viscosity and then said screw it if the car runs rough then I will go back to 20 weight. well its my opinion that 5w30 lets the car run a little smoother.

Explain to me how thicker oil would let your engine run smoother? If anything it will make you run slower due to extra strain on your engine to pump the thicker oil. Not to mention eat into your gas milage.

5w-30 is what a zx2 normally calls for, same goes for any new car. run it 3-4 thousand on regular oil, and run it 5-6 thousand on synthetic oil.

^^^ If you have ever drove an older car that was beat up you would understand. It helps knock, ticks, pings and if you burn lots of oil then if you put thicker stuff in you wont burn as much.
