96 Mercury Tracer LTS
they both whomped me off the line, and stayed about a car infront of me till i hit third gear, then i just FLEW past them! it was insane!! does anyone know why there is this lag.. or more however, how i stomped this car with the same engine as mine?

vs the LTS it would definately come down to driving skills, but does the LTS have the same transmission ratios? that could be the same kinda reason for whooping the probe from behind - your higher gear ratios are 'geared' much better than the probe's higher gears. that's all i can think of with my amatuer tech. knowledge

The LTS has the same engine/transmission/gear ratios as the EGT. Are you sure it was a 5 sp though? And I know it wasn't a 96 LTS, the last year they built the LTS was 95. You probably think you won because after he got that carlength on you he was done racing. therefore HE won. :wink:
What you think of as "lag" is probably there because you started off at 1500 rpm. if you revved to 2500 rpm you can get a pretty good launch, 3500 rpm and you can get a GREAT launch. But a 3500 rpm clutch dump isn't the best thing to do with your tranny.

I know these aren't all the exact years but close enough.
He's in between the two. but the LTS and the GT are so close that it's really down to the launch and driver skill (shifting speed etc)

to me 2nd gear is where it's at. that first shift determines the race. I've jumped many people off the line by letting my clutch out at 2500 rpm and it takes off fine. once I hit 2nd gear though I'm usually gone.

Last week I was driving down jefferson when this cavalier pulled out in front of me, so when I went to go around him he sped up, i dropped from 4th to 3rd and he still kept gaining on me. if I had dropped to 2nd...he'd a been lookin at my taillights easily. He turned and laughed at me cause i didn't catch back up to him or something. :roll: I thought whatever.
