Props to the American Sport Compacts team at Fridays club challenge at Firebird Raceway.
We're on our way to take the number three position from Stateline Racing in the Bronze Cup division; many thanks to Richard Merritt...aka Bozak for giving the club a 33 point jump with his advance to quarterfinals!!! Unfortunately, a mis-shift into second gear put him out of the semi-finals....I know he can win that trophy next time. EXCELLENT driving Rick!!!(My bro!!!) Another unfortunate mishap, I broke out on my first elimination and got to sit the rest of the night out, but the EGT made a great, although unexpected, quarter mile time. The temps were in the triple digits most of the day, but cooled off considerably in the evening netting faster times for everyone. Always makes dial-in decisions fun....another pic of me smoking a V8 Camaro (The wimpy ones) to add to the list. Those pesky V8 automatics just dont stand up.
This week we had TWO Escort GTs at the track along with the rest of the clubs Neons and Focus SVT. I've got a great still shot of Richard smoking the SVT Focus during time trials too...good stuff. And, yes, you heard right...Dodge Neons. The club started out as primarily a Neon club, but has grown to now include Two EGTs, three SVT Focus' and even a VW GTI ( Not sure who told him it was an "American Compact" but oh well). You thought Neons were slow? Ive got a great shot of our Club VP in his Neon RT smoking a Corvette Stingray...I bet the Vette owner sells and buys a 4 banger.
Great racing for the EGT's....they made for some great show too as well as posted the best quarter mile time for the club last night. Its always fun to have a pair of identical EGTs at the track in the same family..Hats off Bro!!!

Was this at Firebird Raceway in Arizona, or is there another Firebird I don't know about???? And if it was in AZ was wasn't I informed of this race??? I had Friday off. Albeit I was sick as a dog, but I would have still come out to see it.

Im working on downsizing the pics and getting them up on my site. Ill post a link soon.
We're not talking 13 second cars here...These are pretty much stock EGTs except for a few intake and exhaust mods and a little tuning.
With temperatures above 103 degrees F. and underhood temps of god only knows what, I ran a 16.40 @82.73Mph. The track was sticky and hot and the cars were launching great, but that damned heat just kills the top end. Richard drove his car smart...he didnt drive it as fast but he drove it consistent, and his best time for the night was 16.68 at around 83 Mph. His car really picks up in the top end, but I think he was keeping his shifts consistent and not pushing the car. He got the club a lot of points and ran great last night.
With lower temps, expect to see the cars break into the high 15 second quarter mile times. Richard (Bozak) is collecting turbo parts like a madman, so expect to see some 13 second times come from him soon. Im going with NOS as well, just to cool things down a bit and am hoping for some 14 second runs soon.

sweet freakin action. I love the Neon taking the Vette. But I bet the Vette is roughly stock and the Neon has had some major work done for sure. It looks like a Stingray? Those things I believe had 427s in them. I can't wait till I can know for sure that the Cavalier next to me has nothing on me :D

I dunno about the stingray. Bens Neon RT has some minor mods, but no forced induction or NOS. He has minor stuff like coldair intake, underdrive pulley, and some minor top end work. Its still a quick little neon though.
There was a Cavalier Z24 that ran 16.2 last night. I had the pleasure of running against him. What a neck and neck race that was. He won that race, but I broke out and got a TERRIBLE launch (1.223 reaction time, Yikes!!) and I launched at under 3kRPM....I guess I was too busy paying attention to him and not the tree<<<amateur mistake. Im pretty sure I could take him if I launched better. Other than that, I was surprised to see a Cav run that fast...normally I smoke them. NOS...every cav owners dream I guess. Cant wait till I get a bottle and show them what the EGT can do. :D

lol that neon romping on the vette is my new background image..

what'd the vette end up running? i think they ran low 17's stock..
i think they had 350's, and were built during the high of "smog control".. putting out a whopping 170hp..

Not sure about the vette...it wasnt very fast though. I didnt get the shot of the time, only the speed. Ill have to ask Ben what the time was. The vette finished at 84.55 MPH so Im guessing somewhere in the mid to high 16's. Bens best run of the night was 16.42 so the vette wasnt faster than that.
Its hard to tell how fast these cars are by the speeds or times alone. The vette ran a faster quarter mile speed, but the Neon ran a faster time. Just means the Neon got up and went real quick while the vette took a long time to pick up speed. Once he got 3/4 way down the track he really started to pick up speed fast. Doesnt matter though...The neon still takes the win on that one.
My brothers EGT runs a slower time than mine, but his trap speed is sometimes 1mph faster than mine. His car picks up in the top end and mine must have a little more oomph in the low end. Thats all subject to change with temps and such. Who knows, with him driving my car, everything would probably be different altogether.
