um...my first question is...why?

1. I don't think the GTX will have the power to pull a van.
2. Why not get a supercharged Cobra motor?
3. don't all of these defeat the purpose of the name of the vehicle?
4. Again, why?
5. I know of no one who's tried this

The GTX motor is the same BP engine block found in the Miata... there's your longitudinal transmission. In fact, you may want to look into turbo miata parts dealers like Flying Miata for ideas and parts that would help the retrofit.

Sounds like a fun project, please keep us informed.

You seem to be rather hyped up about this engine. Have you ever priced one? The engine alone costs more than what 85% of the members on this board paid for their entire vehicle.

.. as for the Econoline - http://www.fullboost.com.au/vidzz/fullB ... asrite.avi (right click - save target as.. )

I say good luck, dear sir. :) Should be a fun project.

Go to the junk yard, find a wrecked 03 Cobra (believe me, they'r eout there) and buy the motor and T56 6 speed for about 2 grand and pull it yourself.

2000 dollars later you have 390 underrated hp.

Used they're priced around $8k, and brand new upwards of $12k. You couldn't get the blower by itself off of a wrecked Cobra for less than $2000. Unless you find a 1 in a million idiot who doesn't know what a Mustang is.
You can attempt to find one out of a wrecked car if you want, but I checked ebay, and a wrecked Mach1 (which is considerably cheaper than a Cobra and less than half the price of a Z06) is going for close to $12k, and that's just a 'run of the mill' 4.6 engine sans blower.

You keep these kids hopes up about Cobra engines in their Escorts, and I'll keep telling them it'll never happen. :)

How are the gas prices up there in Ft. Wayne? I found 92 octane for $2.00 even yesterday. 8O

The Mach 1 and cobra motor are completely different animals. Iron block forged pistons, rods, crank and a host of other fun stuff. vs the Mach1s alum block, 10.5:1 compression, etc.

There's over 13 thousand 03 Cobras...that and the fact that most of them were sold to 20-25 year old retarded guys will drive the price down on junked cars with good motors. I'm not talkin about putting the cobra motor in an escort, he wants to put the bpt into a van, I'm sure it'll fit in the van...hell they put an 03 cobra V8 in a Focus.

Prices in Fort wayne... I paid $2.09 for premium today.

1.88 87
1.98 89
2.09 93

2.08 for 92 at other stations.
