so the other day i was changing my temp in the car and i realized that if the knob is in the cold position, it doesn't matter if its in vent or A/C... i get ice cold air. this could explain my poorer fuel economy if my pump is running all the time. any ideas what to check?

The A/C runs in all positions except Vent (11 o'clock), Off (12 o'clock) and Heat (2 o'clock).

Since the evaporator remains cold for a few minutes even after the A/C is off, you should look at the A/C clutch (what the drive belt rests on) to make sure it's not spinning when you think it's off. I would start with Off first, then check the other two positions.

Another indication that the A/C is engaged is that the radiator fan runs constantly.

thanks for that. i figured the ac would only run in those 2 spots and was trying to use vent/foot as just incoming air. i noticed a difference putting it in just the 11 o'clock spot. thanks
