Well I got a letter last night saying that the bank couldn't approve my loan for some frivilous bull. I took the car back, beat the hell out of it, got my down payment (300) back and left.

Today is another slow day so me and my brother went to the Honda, VW, Ford, Subaru (acura), and Dodge dealers to get some cards and look at some cars.

Subaru had a nice 2.5RS 5 speed (blue) sittin there for 19k base for an 04.

The Honda dealer had a 00 SI with 31k miles on it. They wanted 15997 for it. It's black with factory foglamps and the body kit.

I was looking at Jettas and Golfs at the VW dealership, but nothing struck my fancy.

Ford and Dodge didn't have much of anything worthwhile.

The only problem with the Subaru Dealership is that the *insert explicitive here* Bob Rohrman owns it. He also owns the Nissan dealer I went through with my V. Apparently they finance and release vehicles before the credit is approved. So I drove a brand new car for almost two weeks for free, without even being approved for it.

So my questions is. what should I get? A 2002 2.5 RS or a 2000 SI?

james let me be the first to say it, that has to suck, glad to see you did the american thing on the way back, beat the sh*t out of it. youll find a better car, and hell, youll get to turbo your escort anyway. unless you sold all or even some of what was going to be used. Sorry to hear about your loss.

Sorry James :( That sucks bigtime. Dealers just want to move those cars...

I say, if you're willing to buy a used car.. look for a '00 4-door 2.5RS... but I'm a fan of the GC-8 bodystyle (and lighter weight) over the newer imprezas. I know, I know.. you're looking for something that's on the lot right now.. and I'm not much help. :?

I think $16k is a bit much for a 3 year old civic... that may be at or under blue book for all I know.. but I just don't think it's worth it. :p ..and I DO like hondas.

Here's a Subaru/Honda comparison that may have some weight though.. Hondas are some of the cheapest cars to modify. Subarus are some of the most expensive.. you may as well be modifying a Porsche for the price of Subaru parts. So if you want to continue down the modding road, go Honda.

James, sorry to hear about that....I went through that a few years ago...I'm not sure what I would do in you situation...although a few cars I have looked at recently are...Mazdaspeed Protege, Focus SVT and a Suzuki Aerio SX. yeah the first two are easy to see and I know ppl are going to wonder about the Aerio....well first off the 5-speed wagon is quick(not outright fast, but quick) and fairly nimble...I love the digital dash...it's wild and I did see one that had a nice ICE setup and running on 18's...it was great...the 18's fit perfectly...it's kinda funny...but then you realize it comes on 15's....they offer an awd version..but only with the auto...and looking under the hood there is some room to mod...a turbo could fit with relative ease from the look of things

well there's my opinion

James,

Sorry to hear about the loss... yes even know I gave you shit for leaving the EGT world.

Dealers are evil IMHO. Even the "Good" dealer I finally found they played tricks on us. Told them exactly what I wanted to pay etc and everything was cool until we got in the little room to sign the papers and the payments were a "little" different. by like 100 bucks. We wanted it bad enough to just go with it. that and they gave us more than we owed on the jeep. Almost a full 1500 more than anyone else offered us for a trade in. We got a deal we couldn't really pass up. Seems like all dealers these days will send you off with a new car and call you a day or two later saying you need to come sign some new papers. Saturn got a Vue back when they tried to hose us on our trade in. IMHO I dont know if I'll buy a new car again. If I do it will be a car that will most likely stick around for many years.

Now... do you still own the EGT or did that pass on already? also you still wish to get out of the EGT world I'd much rather see you go suby than any others... actually the new neon wouldn't be bad.

Dealers are jackasses. I hate Nissan of Fort Wayne.

I've already sold roughly half of the car to Brian (PrimerGuru). (He's given me 225 of the 500 I asked for it) So.................the EGT and all of it's stock parts are his for sure. Which reminds me I have more crap to add to my for sale thread...Greenstuff brake pads, cross drilled/slotted Powerstop rotors and probably something else.

I'm looking at getting a 2002 or 03 Subey 2.5RS 5 sp 4 door sedan. (It's the base model Impreza with no hood scoop. It's got AWD, the EJ25 2.5L H4 SOHC in the bug eye body style) It'll be cheaper on insurance than a 2000 Civic SI and it's safer in the rain/snow.

That'll give me 160 hp / 160 ft lbs torque to play with. Although Beav says they're expensive to modify I think I can manage with it stock for a while until I can learn EVERYTHING about it like I did the Escort.

So far I have over $1000 in my bank account and I'm going to use at least 85% of that as a nice down payment. :D

And don't feel bad about giving me a hard time. It's cool....besides you used to drive a Jeep and now you drive an Escape. :p

That suck James, and yes dealer do suck they suck bad.
My girlfriend bught a 99' Eclipse for $9000, had only 40,000 miles, so we were like what was the catch, the dealer said it never had been wreaked or anything, showed us the Carfax, two weeks after she bought the car the paint on the front bumper started to chip bad. Come to find out he ran a fake Carfax on a Eclipe with a different VIN but same color, and almost the same miles. We looked at the real Carfax, yeah it had been in two front end car accidents within two months of each other, some where in Tenn.

Sorry to here that james, it really sucks. I think dealers have to make a pact with satan before they can be successful.
Speaking of the SRT-4, i doubted them for a while, until last week. I was behind the wheel of my friends 97 Grand Prix GTP w/ power pulley and cold air intake. It's gotta have at least 265 horse. Anyway, i was at a stoplight with an SRT neon, i figured i wouldn't have too much trouble, but he kept up with me without a problem. I'm far from a Chrysler fan, but that car just gained my respect

The SRT was definitly trying, sounded tached out to me. Course, so was I. The pontiac's definitly a peppy car, it's got a power to weight rivaling a porsche boxter. I couldn't tell which of us was ahead, it was defintily close.

GTPs with pulley/chip/tranny program (for different shift points) ARE fast...

Ask Zeemax. 8)

SRT-4s are fast...BUT...they're also Fwd with 245 ft lb torque... can we say torque steer?

I want AWD.

Motorcycles, Yes I thought about getting a honda sport bike, but it's starting to turn to winter and I don't know how to ride anyway.

that's true, torque steer is a problem with any front wheel drive car. I wouldn't go with a bike unless you already had a car. A bike is for recreation. Especially a street bike, there only good for short distances, a 30 mile treck on a bike like a Kitana would paralyze you. It's probably no fun at 10 degrees F either.

never had a problem in my Escort with torque steer...maybe caus there just isn't enough torque to steer it anywhere. :p

That sentra Spec V though, holy crap. when it's raining especially that thing is all over the road...and the wheel hop is horrid.

AWD sticks...and it sticks good.

sport bike in snow/rain/sleet/ice=very bad (no matter how you look at it...period.)
RWD in snow/rain/sleet/ice=bad (unless you know how to drive)
FWD in snow/rain/sleet/ice=not so bad
Part time 4WD in snow/rain/sleet/ice=better
Full time AWD in snow/rain/sleet/ice=best option out there

:D

Torque steer is when you put the pedal down to the floor and the massive amount of torque turns the steering wheel one way or another. It's unwanted and is multiplied a few times by wet roads.

My escort never had this problem, but the Spec V (with 180 ft lbs at 4000 rpm) DID...and it had it BAD. :x

But it was fun while it lasted.
